Villa Duca Italy
Holiday Home Rental Description
Villa Duca is an old country house, recently renovated to create a stylish holiday villa. A successful transformation: this villa manages to retain an elegant traditional charm whilst oozing comfort. The house has been divided into a main building and a cosy separate annex with further bedrooms, ideal for two families travelling together or large groups.
Select, old- fashioned furnishings and beautiful beamed roofs echo the history of the old country house, whilst a stylish pool surrounded by modern sun loungers balance the interplay between traditional style and fresh design. Adjacent to the covered veranda which overlooks a decorative solarium and the pool is a wood oven, playfully set into the white curved wall which shades this relaxing spot.
The property boasts a beautiful garden, with Mediterranean plants and citrus trees running around its perimeter. It contains an outdoor dining area to enjoy on a humid evening, as well as an outdoor shower to cool off in.
Marsala, from which the property is a short drive, is located in the Province of Trapani in the westernmost part of Sicily. The town is known chiefly for two things.
Firstly, it is famous for the docking of Garibaldi on 11 May 1860, during the Expedition of the Thousand. Secondly, for its exceptional Marsala wine. Though the order and significance of these is largely up to the visitor!Marsala is built on the ruins of the ancient Carthaginian city of Lilybaion, and includes in its territory the archaeological site of Motya island, an ancient Phoenician town. At the very westernmost point of both Sicily and Marsala is its splendid archaeological museum.
The Egadi Islands are extremely worth exploring, offering much natural beauty and tranquillity. These are just off the coast, accessible by boat trips which can be arranged in Marsala. Walking around these islands it is still possible to find deserted mountain paths; secluded coves and bays with crystal clear waters.
A feature of the area is the Natural Reserve called Stagnone Lagoon — a marine area with shallow waters which create the perfect environment for salt pans. These are truly a sight to behold: a walk along the salt pans of the Stagnone at sunset offers spectacular, unforgettable views.
