Four-bedroom Villa Timbuctu is the ideal base for exploring the stunning marshlands and sandy beaches of the reserve. It doesn’t just boast a tranquil setting that’s close to a rich variety of flora and fauna, but also a contemporary interior design that’s comfortable as well as visually striking.
Each of the four double bedrooms has a distinct colour scheme and individual vibe, with ‘floating’ designer beds throughout. And each also has a luxurious en-suite with shower. One of the bedrooms features an extra single bed; making it especially perfect for groups with a younger child. Locally crafted ceramic tiles on the walls make for wonderfully eye-catching features.
These colourful tiles adorn many of the interior and exterior areas of Villa Timbuctu, adding plenty of authentic charm. The open-plan living/dining room feels bright and open with its clean design and soft furnishings in natural shades against bright pops of colour. Glass sliding doors run down one side, flooding the room with light and offering clear views out over the garden.
Dine indoors or enjoy an al-fresco meal on the shaded terrace. Sumptuous outdoor seating areas are inviting spots for drinks, or for simply sitting back and soaking up the peace and surrounding scenery. Another way to relax is by taking a refreshing dip in the swimming pool.
Enjoy long hikes, birdwatching, unwinding on sandy beaches and swimming in the sea when you immerse yourself in the beauty of Vendicari Nature Reserve. You will also be enchanted by the ancient sites you’re sure to stumble upon as you explore the rugged coast that’s just a 15-minute drive away. The marshland is home to a number of bird species, such as pelicans, egrets and flamingos.
Villa Timbuctu is also ideally located for day trips to historic towns and cities. The UNESCO-protected Baroque city of Noto is 20 minutes away by car, with charming Pachino just a 15-minute drive from the villa.In a secluded part of the rolling Sicilian countryside with views of the sea and Vendicari Nature Reserve, Villa Timbuctu is a total oasis of calm. You can be exploring over 1,500 hectares worth of naturally beautiful landscapes in less than 15 minutes after a scenic drive out from the villa. Rugged marshland is home to many bird species, such as egrets, pelicans and flamingos; making it a stunning destination for birdwatchers.
Another spectacular feature of the reserve is the 13km of rocky coastline and the crystal clear waters that lap it. It’s dotted with coves and beaches, with the golden sands of Spiaggia di Vendicari and Spiaggia di Calamosche the closest beaches to the villa.
You can walk through the glorious countryside and nature reserve to reach the coast in around 45 minutes, but you’ll probably find it easier to jump in the car. Relax on the beach, swim in the sea and even go snorkelling. Many ancient sites can also be found near the coast, such as Tonnara di Vendicari, which is located near Spiaggia di Vendicari.
The town of Pachino is a short drive away and is well worth visiting for historic sightseeing. Marvel at an array of 18th-century buildings in the town’s central piazza and discover ancient sites like the Greek temple and Roman village.
UNESCO-protected Noto is famous for its Baroque architecture and is easily one of the most stunning cities in south-east Sicily. Noto Cathedral is especially impressive, with the city boasting many majestic palaces and churches too.
