La Cascade France
Holiday Home Rental Description
Built in 1880 and recently refurbished, La Cascade offers an inviting blend of traditional charm and modern comfort.
With eight bedrooms over three separate wings, tucked away in a forest of truffle oaks in the undulating countryside of the Drôme department, this charming home is the ideal place for any large group of family or friends looking to spend quality time together in privacy and tranquillity.
The main stone house, split into two wings each with its own entrance, features a vast kitchen where keen chefs can gather to whip up a delicious treat for the whole group. Welcoming lounge and dining areas allow guests to find their perfect spot, be that inside or out, to kick back and enjoy their holiday. There are four bedrooms in the main wing and two just next door, each one with its own style but all with homely and comfortable furnishings.
In addition, there is a separate annexe with its own kitchen-diner, two bedrooms and a shower room, so whether you want to all pitch in and cook or relax together or occasionally prefer a little privacy and space, the choice is yours!
Each part has a distinct character, ranging from a traditional rustic vibe to a more contemporary design. Numerous quirks add to the charming character of the home – even including a retro pinball machine in the pool house!
Outside, the vast private pool sits beautifully among spacious gardens with fruit trees, exotic shrubs and rows of deck chairs, offering yet another delightful space to spend time together. A fabulous alfresco dining area and convenient pool house with kitchen add to the wide array of dining options in the house, allowing you to enjoy your meal under the famous warmth of the Rhone-Alpes sun.
Located very close to the charming hilltop village of Saint Restitut, you’re on the doorstep of some of the finest wines in the region – visit the cathedral cellars to see what all the fuss is about!
You’re also a stone’s throw from a whole range of fascinating trips and activities. Soak up the rich cultural heritage and interesting architecture of Saint Paul Trois Châteaux, less than 6km away, or else explore the botanical village of Grignan, home to a magnificent Renaissance Castle, less than 20km away.Just 2km away are the ‘cathedral cellars’ at Saint-Restitut, which wine-lovers simply cannot miss! An astonishing underground cathedral in a disused stone quarry, famous for its ‘Cellier des Dauphins’ wines, where one can taste highly respected wines including: Red and White Réserve, Red Grand Millésime and Grande Cuvée Toque Noire Red.
In addition, La Cascade is perfectly located around 40 minutes from the picturesque town of Montélimar (33km) which hosts the beautiful Jardin Public, a charming green space among the busy streets of the town that even has a small animal park! Wander the tree-lined boulevards, visit the Museum of Miniatures, with its fascinating collection of doll’s houses and pop in to the Palais des Bonbons et du Nougat too, a sweet-lovers paradise, where you can see how the treats are made!
The region of Drôme itself is a delightful area, attracting far fewer tourists compared to neighbouring Provence but is arguably even more beautiful. The Rhone Alpes are a maze of orchards, olive groves, black truffles, and of course a range of incredible vineyards across the Côtes du Rhône wine region.
Our most active guests will adore the range of activities on offer nearby. From water-sports to waterparks, hikes to bikes and rivers to rafts. With the vast Massif Central mountains and the dramatic canyons carved through them by the Ardèche River, hiking and rafting are particularly popular, and the near-deserted mountain roads are fantastic for some tough but ultimately rewarding and beautiful cycling.
To the south is the impressive city of Avignon (60km), with a UNESCO World Heritage Site historic centre, each year it hosts the delightful Festival d’Avignon which attracts visitors from all over the world!
Southwest of Avignon is Nîmes (84km), sometimes called the ‘Rome of France’, located between the Mediterranean Sea and the Cévennes mountains. Nîmes is home to many remains of the Roman Empire as well as all kinds of museums and markets in amongst its palm-lined streets and also hosts several high-profile festivals throughout the year.
To the north is the wonderful Valence (82km), a listed city of famous for its art and history, with a charming historic centre and even further north is Lyon, something of a cultural and culinary hub and one of three main cities of the region, alongside Grenoble and St. Etienne, with a fascinating Renaissance and medieval centre.
International airports can be found across the region, including in Nîmes, Avignon and Marseille or Lyon, and of course, the increasingly popular Eurostar now runs services to Lyon, Avignon and Marseille! At Excellence Luxury Villas we pride ourselves on going that little bit further for our guests.
