Netherfield Tower United Kingdom

Luxury Villas
| 4 Bedrooms|

Rental Description

Tucked away in the peaceful lanes of West Sussex, just a couple of miles from the historic town of Battle, and within easy reach of the coast sits Netherfield Tower, once the shooting lodge for the nearby Ashburnham Estate. Both elegant and quirky, it is a superbly spacious and characterful property ideal for a family or group of friends. Sleeping nine guests across four beautifully decorated and individually themed bedrooms, and with two bathrooms, it is perfect for a countryside break in a truly unique property.
Upon entering this delightful property, guests will be immediately impressed by the large living room, with its gothic revival windows that allow sunlight to flood into the room, high wood-panelled ceiling, and large comfortable sofas arranged invitingly around a wood burner. The carefully chosen antique pieces of furniture and the faded beauty of the Persian rug combine artfully with the contemporary lighting and brightly coloured cushions to create an air of quirky aristocracy.
Heading up to the first floor and along the atmospheric hallway, guests will discover a warm and welcoming country kitchen, with traditional oak units, a slate floor and a breakfast table, perfectly situated by the window for a morning coffee with a view over the surrounding countryside. Also on this floor are the two spacious bathrooms, one with shower and a bath, the other a shower room.
Up on the second floor are the first two beautiful bedrooms. The first, a superbly elegant room with a four-poster king-size bed, is furnished in cool blues and whites that perfectly complement the traditional wooden furniture and panelled ceiling. Guests will appreciate waking up to beautiful countryside views through the large windows. Also on this floor is a second king-size room with an attractive cream-painted iron bed, a panelled ceiling and wall and an elaborate wall hanging, which together create a slightly colonial ambience.
As guests climb up to the third floor they will find the first cosy and comfortable twin room. Decorated in warm brown themes, it is spacious and comfortable, with antique furniture and soft bedlinen. In contrast, the fourth bedroom is a pretty riot of colourful florals and stripes, evocative of an English country garden, and with the addition of a day bed, comfortably sleeps three guests.
Outside there is a peaceful lawned garden with patio furniture and a barbecue, perfect for getting together in the evening sunshine after a day at the coast. Guests can sit and enjoy the peace and tranquillity, interrupted only by the soothing sound of birdsong in this picturesque rural idyll. Netherfield Tower is a wonderfully special property full of character in beautiful West Sussex. Close to a range of attractions and within easy reach of the south coast beaches, it is the perfect rural retreat for a family celebration or relaxing break.Netherfield Tower sits amongst the lanes and hedgerows of the leafy Sussex countryside, in the High Weald Area Of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Just 2.5 miles from the town of Battle, the area is rich in history, having witnessed the famous Battle of Hastings in 1066 and the death of King Harold. The south coast is just 6 miles away, home to the seaside town of Hastings along with a wide range of attractions.
Avoid the brash seaside traditions of modern Hastings and instead head over to Hastings Old Town, nestled in a valley on the eastern side of the town. See the tall black net huts of the large local fishing fleet, take a wander on the pebble beach and browse the exhibitions at the smart and stylish Hastings Contemporary art gallery. Explore the narrow streets and alleyways of this area, full of quirky boutiques, antique shops and artisans before enjoying a lunch of freshly caught fish. Round the day off with a ride up one of the two funicular railways for fabulous views over the town and sea.
The superb Battle Abbey was built by William the Conqueror after the battle of Hastings and stands next to a meadow where King Harold is said to have died. Partially ruined, the abbey is still an impressive edifice. Admire the architecture of the rib-vaulted Novices’ Common Room before climbing the 70 steps of the spiral staircase to reach the roof from where you can take in the breathtaking views. Learn more about the abbey’s history in the Gatehouse Exhibition or enjoy a stroll around the beautiful walled garden.
The charming town of Rye, just half an hour’s drive away, is a must. Take time to explore the winding, cobbled streets of this pretty medieval town, with its timbered buildings, quirky independent shops, galleries, bars and restaurants. Pay a visit to the Rye Castle Museum, part of which is housed in the Ypres Tower. Once part of the town’s defensive walls, it now homes various exhibits on its past as a fort, a private dwelling, a prison and a courthouse. Nearby Rye Harbour Nature Reserve is a delightful place for a coastal walk. Once covered by the sea, today it is a wetland wildlife conservation area.At Excellence Luxury Villaswe pride ourselves on going that little bit further for our guests.
