Kisla Evi is a charming two-bedroom villa in Kalkan on Turkey’s stunning Turquoise Coast. It’s a popular destination due to its sweeping Mediterranean bays, majestic backdrop of the Taurus Mountains and a friendly and welcoming atmosphere. From the villa, you’re within 80m of Kalkan Beach Park, great for a morning swim or jump on a boat over to the harbour front.
The villa is spacious and has been designed to resemble a ship, with circular porthole-inspired feature windows, and it overlooks the bay and the town. It’s an excellent space for small families and outdoor living with a private and enclosed swimming pool and sun terrace, and plenty of comfortable spots for you relax or play in the sun or the shade. You can dine al fresco while watching the sun set on your undercover dining table or cook up a storm on the outdoor BBQ.
Inside, you’ll find an open-plan living, dining and kitchen area with a statement fireplace, ample seating and a dining table and chairs by the fully-equipped kitchen. Patio doors, letting in the beautiful natural light, open onto the pool terrace where you can take a dip in the cooling waters, curl up with a good book or play pool on the pool table while taking in the spectacular vistas.The two bedrooms – a double and a twin – each have an en-suite shower room and patio doors leading onto a shared terrace which again offers fantastic views over the bay and resort. The bedrooms have plenty of windows letting in light, and that’s also where you’ll find the porthole windows for a nautical feel. For your convenience, there’s also a shower room on the ground floor.
Vibrant Kalkan town is within walking distance, or a short taxi ride, of the villa, along with the harbour which is a starting point for boat trips and excursions. The town lays on a selection of tempting dining options too, including the famous rooftop restaurants and waterfront eateries along a promenade of laid-back cocktail lounge bars.
Kisla Evi overlooks the coastline, and is in the old fishing village of Kalkan. The town is a treasure trove of narrow streets, whitewashed houses and inviting boutiques. It’s also famous for its harbourside lounge bars, rooftop restaurants serving a variety of delicious food and shops. A trip to the Thursday market is not to be missed, look out for Turkish specialities like delightful gozleme (thin dough crepes) with cheese and spinach fillings.
For outdoor exploring, there’s lots of walking and hiking routes in the area. The best known, and arguably most scenic, is the Lycian Way – a 310-mile tying-together of goat tracks and paths, which will lead you to unspoilt beaches, lush forests and soaring peaks, and stops at the ghost village of Kayakoy near Fethiye, where you’ll find abandoned Greek buildings, left from the population exchange nearly a century ago. With the dramatic pine tree-lined Taurus Mountains as a backdrop too, families can explore there too.
To immerse yourself in the rich history, you can visit the church turned mosque by Kalkan`s harbour. Venturing furthering afield you can take a boat trip to the to Kalkan’s many pretty bays you can snorkel and enjoy a lunch cooked the the boats captain. You’ll also find plenty of beaches in the area for a day of relaxing on soft sands or taking part in water sports like scuba diving or water skiing.
Shingley Kaputas Beach is 5.2km away, while Patara Beach, a 12-mile long stretch of shoreline that’s also a National Park, is a 18km drive. Both are ideal for swimming. The lively town of Kas is a 30-40 minute drive from Kalkan, while the seaside resort town of Fethiye is a one-hour drive away with plenty more restaurants, shops and fascinating cultural sites to explore.
