Beautiful, landscaped gardens surround the property, and the beach is just a flip-flopped amble away – 200 metres to be exact – while Bodrum is a short 10-minute drive, so you can get the best of both worlds – action-packed and tranquil relaxation.
It’s decorated traditionally Turkish in style, with a modern twist – think whitewashed walls, red terracotta-tile roofs and rustic stone features. The bright hue of the building contrasts wonderfully with the vibrantly-coloured grass, shrubs and flowers for a photo-worthy exterior. Inside, the luxury continues with tiled floors and air conditioning – perfect for keeping you cool – and plenty of seating options to kick back on. When you’re not sprawled out on the soft grass with your holiday read, dip your toes in your private pool or siesta under the shade of the pergola.
When it’s time for meals, the villa is equipped with everything you’ll need for a self-catering stay – kitchen, cosy indoor dining table and alfresco dining table – so you can save on that holiday budget. Or, if you’d like to eat out – we think you should – Bodrum’s top-notch Turkish restaurants are your go-to. Try köfte – stewed lamb or beef or lamb – fresh seafood or a hearty meze. Fussy eaters? There are a range of international restaurants, too, so you can choose classic favourites. When you get back to the villa, sink into the comfy sofa or one of the plush beds. There’s one queen, two doubles and a twin room – all equally welcoming and light and with plenty of storage space.
So, when you’re not catching rays on a sun lounger at the villa or Bitez Beach – a popular sandy stretch of coastline, fringed by cafes – Bodrum has your name on it. Explore the colourful markets, brush up on your history at Bodrum castle or traverse the rugged coast and find hidden coves.
Villa Doluca is in the laidback Turkish town of Bitez. Although it’s only a 10-minute drive from bustling Bodrum, it has a quiet and traditional feel, and still retains its old-world charm. It is dotted with traditional white-washed houses, and there’s a bay lined with classic wooden fishing boats. Loose track of time lazing on sand-and-smooth-shingle Bitez Beach or strolling around the citrus groves that unfold around the town. Bitez Beach curves around the bay and is more sheltered than some spots on the Aegean, so expect swimming-friendly waters. Plus, it has a Blue Flag to its name. For a change of scenery, Bodrum Town is your go-to. The bustling capital boasts everything from a beautiful marina to ancient sites and boutique shop. It’s also a must-visit for history lovers. Fun fact – not only is it the site of one of the Wonders of the Ancient World – the Mausoleum of Halicarnassus – but it’s also home to the fascinating Museum of Underwater Archaeology, inside St Peter’s Castle on the waterfront. Here You can see ancient treasures recovered from sunken ships, and two reconstructed shipwrecks – one dating from the Bronze Age. There’s also Bodrum Castle, dating back to the Knights of St. John.
For a traditional shopping experience instead, you can visit Bodrum’s markets. There you’ll find stalls selling everything from hand-made rugs and clothing to fresh produce. When the sun sets, the city comes alive with live music. For the sports lovers, there’s an 18-hole golf course nearby, as well as tennis courts dotted around the peninsula. You’ll also find plenty of opportunities to take part in water sports like sea kayaking, scuba diving and parasailing. Wolf’s Point – a prime spot for stingray, groupers and stonefish – is just one of the top dive sites.
