Live like a local with a stay at the charming Villa Sefa, in the village of Islamlar, above the holiday hotspot of Kalkan on the Mediterranean Turquoise coast. This beautiful stone cottage-style villa has two bedrooms and two bathrooms, and can comfortably accommodate up to four guests. Ideal for a small family holiday, or two couples sharing, and perfect for a romantic honeymoon just made for two. Located in the natural setting of the hills of Kalkan, the villa occupies its own plot surrounded by tall pine trees and olive groves as old as time itself. Decorated with locally made craftsman wooden furniture, and painted in classic Mediterranean white, with cornflower blue highlights, this villa is a real home from home.
Small but perfectly formed, the ground floor has a furnished entrance hall, with a L-shaped comfy blue sofa, coffee table, and modern free-standing lamps. There is a bedroom with a large double bed, dressed in crisp white linens and sea blues accessories, with French windows leading to the garden and pool terrace, and an ensuite shower room. Take the central stairs to an open plan living area, furnished with a blue sofa, wooden side and coffee tables, a flat screen television, and an open fire for the cooler months and evenings. Billowing white curtains drape over louvred shuttered windows, and French doors give access to a balcony with table and chairs. A small kitchen with traditional wooden doors, wraps around the stone wall, fully equipped with everything you will need for a happy holiday. The second bedroom is on the first floor, and is also dressed in classic Mediterranean blues and whites, fully furnished, with an ensuite marble bathroom with a double shower.
The outside space is where you will be spending most of your time, home to an impressive natural salt water panoramic infinity pool, enjoy a few lengths before a yummy breakfast. Mesh sunbeds with shady parasols surround the pool, with a scattering of pastel pink cushions and bean bags on which to wallow in the sunshine. There is an elevated Ottoman seating area, and an ancient cedar tree, the perfect place to unwind with some holiday reading. The double level garden is surrounded by tall trees, giving the space a sense of privacy, seclusion and natural shade. A chestnut dining table cut from one piece of wood seats four guests, where you can dine alfresco as the sunsets and count the twinkling stars.Villa Sefa is located in the lovely village of Islamlar, high up in the Kalkan hills, situated on the Turquoise Coast, the jewel of the Mediterranean Sea. The nearest restaurants and shops are just a short drive away, whilst the town of Kalkan is ten kilometres downhill all the way. Islamlar is 130 kilometres from Dalaman Airport, a scenic one and a half hour journey through the Turkish countryside and Taurus mountains. The nearest town of Kalkan was originally a Greek enclave called Kalamaki, Ottoman and Hellenic influences can be found in the winding streets of the old town, full of traditional white houses and home to a plethora of restaurants, cafes and bars, and souvenir shops full of goodies you’ll want to take home. For the beach bunnies, Kalkan has its own pebble beach with easy access into the sea.
Travel further afield to the stunning Kaputas Beach set in a natural gorge, or take a trip to Patara, where you will find twenty kilometres of unspoilt golden sands and a protected area for the hatching turtles. Kalkan is home to a number of beach clubs along the length of its coastline, have some fun in the sun at family-friendly resorts offering water sports and swimming pools, or relax and unwind at exclusive luxury destinations and be waited on hand and foot whilst enjoying alfresco spa treatments. No stay in Islamlar is complete without a boat trip from Kalkan harbour, whether it’s a shared one with family and friends or you charter your own gulet, a day out at sea with your favourite captain and crew, is one to treasure. All aboard for a day of swimming and snorkelling in beautiful bays, enjoy a meal of local home-cooked meze, enjoy ice cream and afternoon tea, and then sail back to harbour cocktail in hand to watch the sunset. For those with itchy feet the Lycian Way walking trail cuts through Islamlar and Uzumlu. Follow in the footsteps of thousands of years of history, as you trek the trails taking you through major archaeological sites, local villages, dramatic coastlines, and the areas’ flora and fauna. Take a short journey to the town of Kinik, where you can step back in time to the Lycian city of Xanthos.
Follow the D400 to Fethiye, and discover the historical sites of Patara, Letoon, Tlos, and Pinara, where you can see the ancient ruins, amphitheatres and temples with Lycian, Greek, Roman, and Byzantine influences. The harbour town of Fethiye is also full of ancient sites worth seeing, as well as a foodie-heaven fish market, and home to some seriously good designer labels and fabulous jewellery shopping. Whilst the nearer town of Kas is just twenty-five kilometres away, and worth the journey alone along one of the world’s most stunning and dramatic coastlines. Walk through the harbour to the cobbled streets full of Ottoman architecture and overhanging balconies festooned with pastel coloured bougainvillaea, barter for unique handmade and antique goods in its many shops, and make memories dining in one of the traditional restaurants serving authentic Turkish cuisine with mesmerising sea views. And if you’re feeling really intercontinental, hop on the daily twenty-minute ferry from Kas to the Greek island of Meis, where you can explore the mysterious Blue Cave and dine by the water’s edge.At Excellence Luxury Villas we pride ourselves on going that little bit further for our guests.
