Perched in the hillside and overlooking the sea, five-bedroom Villa Yunus boasts unrivalled views of Turkey’s Turquoise Coast. It’s in the sleepy village of Kalamar in Kalkan, and has the towering Taurus Mountains as a backdrop. When you’re not relaxing around this villa’s large private pool – there are plenty of chairs and loungers to choose from – head to the white-sand beach near the marina for swimming or sunbathing, or Kaputas, a small sandy cove, that’s just 7km east of Kalkan.
The villa adds an Instagram-worthy exterior and interior to its resume, too. Think contemporary, yet comfortable furnishings. There’s an open-plan living room – equipped with a large kick-back-on corner sofa – and a modern American-style kitchen. Large glass windows and doors flood the space with light, and truly showcase those coastal vistas. It’s spacious enough for the whole family to relax together, and with the addition of both an indoor and outdoor dining table, meal times are a real treat here. You can pick up your fresh local produce from the shops, just a short walk away.
Thanks to its cinema room – perfect for kids young and old – and sauna, steam room and Hamman, Villa Yunus really packs in the benefits, too. There’s a gym here too so you can keep up with your fitness regime while you’re away. The rooms are spread across the four spacious floors. For those wanting a bit of extra privacy, or with limited mobility, there’s a double bedroom with bathroom and kitchenette on the ground floor. On the first floor, you’ll find two double bedrooms – one with a spa-inspired Jacuzzi bathtub – as well as a twin bedroom. Last but certainly not least there’s another double bedroom on the terraced floor – also equipped with a bathroom and Jacuzzi bathtub. Villa Yunus is set in a peaceful spot overlooking Turkey’s Mediterranean coast. It’s in the sleepy village of Kalamar, and has the majestic pine tree-lined Taurus Mountains as backdrop. The quiet area benefits from a white-sand beach, and is the ideal place to swim or simply relax.
A short walk from the villa takes you into Kalamar Town with plen ty of local shops, cafes and restaurants. You could also drive 7km to nearby Kalkan Town, where there’s a charming harbour dotted with Turkish wooden gulets – traditional boats – as well as waterfront restaurants and a beautiful and historic old town area which extends back from the sea. Wander the streets with houses draped in brightly coloured bougainvillaea flowers or dine on a roof terrace restaurant with spectacular views of the town. There are also plenty of swimming beaches in Kalkan and Turkish Baths for a relaxing end-of-day massage.
To immerse yourself in the rich history of this charming part of Turkey, you can take a boat trip to the small island of Kekova where you can snorkel and explore the part sunken ruins of Dolchiste, an ancient town which was destroyed by an earthquake during the 2nd century.
For outdoor adventurers, the dramatic Taurus Mountains with deeply cut valleys and canyons are an ideal place to hike. You could also join the popular Lycian Way – a long-distance footpath that takes you around the coast. The route stops at great sites including the ghost village of Kayakoy near Fethiye, with abandoned Greek buildings. For even more sites and things to do, the bohemian town of Kas is a 30-40 minute drive, while the resort town of Fethiye is a one-hour drive away.
