The Crete Senesi look like a different world. In spring, an explosion of nature turns the fields to green waves caressed by the wind. In autumn, the farmers’ ploughs bring the clay back to the surface with its ethereal violet shimmer.It’s no surprise the region produces excellent sheep’s milk cheese, given an unmistakable flavour of the wild herbs the sheep graze on. Land of olive groves that produce the fine Terre di Siena oil, and here you can find a variety of one of the rarest and finest white truffles in Italy.
Located a few kilometers from Rapolano Terme near Siena, Villa Rapolano is surrounded by 6 hectares of land and gardens containing olive trees, fruit trees and medicinal and culinary herbs.
The natural surroundings will help sooth your soul. Villa Rapolano is somewhere relaxation comes easily! In this clay region with its endless horizons, you won’t find a lot of rocks or stone. Almost everything is made of clay bricks, and the beautiful farmhouses that isolated on the top of a hills are distinctive as a result.
Magnificent monuments mark the territory like cardinal points, from the Abbey of Monte Oliveto (with a marvellous cloister with 16th century frescoes) to the fortified medieval storehouse for wheat Grancia di Cuna, from the castle of San Giovanni d’Asso to the city walls of Buonconvento.
But mason’s stone and bricks meet harmoniously in Asciano,the historic chief city of this region, where you can admire the 14th century Sienese city walls side by side with the Romanesque architecture of the Basilica of Sant’Agata and the artistic treasures of Palazzo Corboli, a glorious medieval city palace that today houses a museum.
