Villa Egg is located on the captivating island of Erikousa, eight nautical miles northwest of Corfu. It is enveloped by crystal clear blue waters, golden sand and steep rocky beaches. You can only get to the island by boat. The ship Evdokia departs from the port of Corfu every Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday at 8.30 am and returns to Corfu on the same days at 2 pm with the sail lasting just over two hours. Otherwise, you can take a water taxi. Erikousa is one of the Diapondia Islands and was named after the bush ‘Reiki’ which flourishes in October and turns the island into a purple oasis. The island is perfect for lazy beach days, hikes and enjoying nature.

Porto, the main village and port, is located between two hills at the location Megalo Livadi. There are some mini markets which also serve as cafes and tavernas and a delightful hotel and restaurant. West of Porto is the hill of Katergo which is washed on the west by the Adriatic Sea. From Porto, you will pass olive groves and tall cypress trees which finally lead you to the Cape Koukouli, at the Bay of Fyki which was the old port. The highest point of the island is called Santardo. Smaller settlements are Gritsiatika, Nikolaitika, Touri and Kezepatika.

Back on Corfu, you will want to visit Corfu Town, the birthplace of the late Duke of Edinburgh and one of the most beautiful, graceful and elegant towns in Greece. Corfu Town falls between two great Venetian coastal fortresses and within lies a very modern capital brimming with elegant mansions, magnificent palaces, beautiful squares and no fewer than 39 churches including the beautiful Church of Saint Spiridon. The Duke of Edinburgh was born at the fabulous Mon Repos Palace. Next to the palace gardens, you will find the calm waters of Mon Repos Beach. To the north, you will find Faliraki Beach. The town’s stunning architecture has many influences including Sicilian, Venetian, French and English. The entire Old Town is declared a UNESCO World Heritage site, a tightly-packed warren of cobbled winding lanes bursting with lively bars, boutiques and fine restaurants. You will also see timeless alleys with the day’s washing stretching from balcony to balcony, such a pretty scene, especially with colourful bougainvillaea draped everywhere. There are also some interesting museums including the Byzantine Museum of Corfu which is housed in a 15th-century church. Others are the Museum of Ceramic Art, the D Solomos Museum and the Asian Art Museum.

North of Corfu Town is The White House in Kalami, best known as the former residence of British author, Lawrence Durrell. Lawrence lived at the house in the 1930s with his wife Nancy. Their Kalami home was regularly visited by his family including the young Gerald Durrell who later became a leading conservationist and popular author. You can visit The White House which has been owned by the Atheneos family for generations for a holiday experience about literary history, Greek hospitality and fresh seafood! The village of Kalami is surrounded by the turquoise waters of the Ionian Sea, a beautiful peaceful spot.

The nearest vibrant village on Corfu to the island is Sidari which offers a fabulous array of restaurants, bars, supermarkets, vehicle hire shops, souvenir shops and travel agents offering many different tours. Sidari Beach is wonderful with excellent watersports and many organised loungers and parasols. There is a scuba diving school close to the beach. The small port also offers boat trips to the isolated islands of Othoni and Mathraki as well as  Erikousa. Sidari also boasts a small water park inside a hotel which is open to non-residents.

Roda is a lovely resort close to Sidari. The eastern part of the beach is the village’s picturesque fishing harbour. There are plenty of tavernas, bars and shops and a delightful sandy beach. Many watersports are available as well as boat trips to Paleokastritsa, Corfu Town and the coastal islands near Corfu. Roda boasts some archaeological sites such as the remains of a Doric temple dating from the 5th century BC. You will see some of the finds from Roda in the archaeological museum in Corfu Town.

Also close by is Acharavi which enjoys a wonderful variety of shops, bars and restaurants. They are sprinkled along the central street and along the beach promenade. Acharavi’s golden beach stretches the whole length of the town, a lengthy 3km. Visitors will find plenty of loungers and umbrellas for hire and a wonderful selection of beach bars.
