You get the best of both worlds when you vacation in Villa Echofall, hidden in the village of Chorafakia, near the north coast of the Greek island of Crete. Villa Echofall is nestled in nature, surrounded by ancient olive groves and indigenous shrubs in season, yet within walking distance of soft, sandy beaches, and crystal clear waters of the Aegean Sea. The three-storey, detached villa has four spacious bedrooms, and can comfortably accommodate up to eight guests, ideal for a family holiday, or a group of friends’ sharing. Villa Echofall is constructed out of classic Mediterranean whitewashed walls, and natural wood shuttered windows and doors.
The property is set in its own grounds, with a lawned garden, tiled terrace, and decking area, that is home to your own private swimming pool. Villa Echofall comes complete with on-street parking, complimentary air conditioning and Wi-fi throughout, and smart televisions and safety boxes in all the rooms. The interiors have been expertly designed, furnished with contemporary pieces, adorned with modern art, and decorated in a subtle colour palette of soft shades of beige and grey, with highlights of hues of blue.
Enter the villa at ground floor level, where you will be welcomed by a light and bright open plan living space, with floor-to-ceiling sliding doors that open onto the sea view terrace. The cosy seating area has a dove grey L-shaped sofa, wooden coffee table and armchair, all facing a 50” flat-screen satellite television. The adjacent handcrafted wood table, chairs, and bench seat, are perfect for some informal indoor entertaining. The light wood and white kitchen is fully equipped with all the latest appliances which you will need to cater for your holiday, including that must-have integral wine rack. The first of the four well-appointed bedrooms can be found on this floor, with a queen size bed, fitted furniture, and a pool access balcony. A shower room with a hand basin, WC, washer, and dryer completes the ground floor accommodation. Take the stairs to the first floor, and pass the peacock chair on the landing, where you will find two double bedrooms, both with queen size beds, smart TVs, and fitted wardrobes. The sea view balconies are furnished with bamboo director’s chairs, a swing seat, or a wrought iron two-seater patio set. There is a large shared family bathroom, with a bathtub and overhead shower, a double vanity unit, and a WC. On the lower level there is the fourth bedroom, which is home to two wendy house style wooden beds, and to scale children’s furniture, perfect for your younger children to share. For their amusement, there is a smart TV, a Playstation3 with games, a racing wheel, and board games. For the adults, there is a desk and office chair and a PC.
Access the sea view terrace, with a centrepiece swimming pool, surrounded by decking, which is home to wooden sun loungers with comfy cushions, and a shady parasol. There is a well-manicured lawn, where you can sunbathe and soak up the summer sun. A soft seating area is snuggled under the veranda, ideal for meeting for morning coffee or a sunset cocktail. The eight-seater dining set sits under a purpose-built pergola and is perfect for feasting alfresco, with dishes fresh from the portable barbeque. As dusk falls, and the Cretan stars begin to twinkle, raise a glass of retsina to the most magical holiday memories.

Villa Echofall embraces the best of both worlds, nestled in the Cretan countryside, yet within five minutes of the nearest beach. The villa is in the village of Chorafakia, near the north coast of the Greek island of Crete, in the azure Aegean Sea. The villa is only six kilometres from Chania airport, a short drive will have you at your holiday home from home. The nearest village of Kounoupidiana has a mini-mart, for provisions for your holidays, and cafes and bars to stop and sample the local dishes.
The villa is betwixt and between the beautiful beach of Tersanas, and the quiet seaside resort of Kalathas, and nearby is the highly recommended Stavros beach, with its soft sand and crystal clear waters. The town of Chania is twelve kilometres from the villa. Walk the narrow streets to see the fourteenth-century Venetian harbour, with a sixteenth-century lighthouse, the Archeological and Nautical Museums, and stop at a waterfront restaurant for a dinner of freshly caught fish. Visit local villages, most especially quaint Aspro, historical Gavalochori, and Kefalas, with a museum showing typical Cretan life. The village of Kokkino Chorio is where ‘Zorba, The Greek’ was filmed, stop at the glassblowing workshops, and dine in a local taverna, for the view alone.
A twenty-minute journey will take you to the port of Souda, with the archaeological site of ancient Aptera, and an Ottoman fort. Explore the three hundred hidden caves, hike over hillsides, streams, and rocky ravines to discover watermills and ruins, and stop along the way at a local winery to taste the fruits of the many vineyards. All aboard for a day at sea, where you can swim and snorkel, or scuba dive underwater ruins. For the adrenalin junkies, jet skis or paraglide with one of the many water sports clubs. The port town of Heraklion is a two-hour drive away, take a tour around the ancient Palace of Knossos, visit the Archaeological Museum, walk along the Venetian walls, and stroll through the old quarter, where you can shop for souvenirs.
Go further afield to Vai, Crete’s easternmost tip, where you will find lush forests and a unique date palm. Explore Psychro Cave, reputedly the birthplace of Zeus, and rock climb Mount Ida to find the Ideon Cave. Sitia Geopark is three hundred and fifty square kilometres of the island’s diverse ecosystem, where you can trek through gorges, bathe on beaches, walk the wetlands, bird-watch, and be at one with nature. Hike the Richtis Gorge, stroll through streams to reach the twenty-metre waterfall, and then cool off in the inviting pool. Find solace in the fifteenth-century Toplou Monastery, and admire its exquisite Byzantine icons.
Take a boat tour from exclusive Elounda to the intriguing island of Spinalonga, once a former leper colony with a Venetian fortress, and now an open-air museum. Go to Agios Nikolaos, a harbour town that uniquely houses a lake in its centre, and is home to an archaeological museum of Minoan treasures, not to mention the shops, cafes, bars, and restaurants in which to sit, and watch the local life go by.
