Surrounded by the snowy Vanoise Peaks, Courchevel Village sits at an altitude of 1550m, overlooking the valley and slopes to the east. One of the quieter districts of the Courchevel resort, the Village is a mix of traditional chalets and new hotels, offering a ski school, quality hire shops and several local restaurants, all just a short walk from the apartment. The slopes are also within easy reach, with the Gragnette Gondola just 50m away, swiftly transporting you to the central lifts where a piste map bursting with opportunity awaits.
Part of the Trois Vallées, Courchevel has a worldwide reputation and offers a wide variety of terrain to appeal to all abilities. With a majority of north-facing slopes, there is reliable snow cover as well as some of the finest powder, and seasoned skiers should head up to Saulire to experience steep corridors and challenging runs. At the top of the cable car, the Grand Couloir is one of the steepest pistes in the Alps, whilst Combe Saulire is a reliable signature run, best visited first thing in the morning. Courchevel is also an excellent place for those just starting out, with dedicated beginners zones and several nursery areas where you can develop your confidence at your own pace. Plenty of ski schools offer both group and private tuition or hire a guide and explore the wilder terrain with a day off-piste.
Lively bars and traditional cabin restaurants dot the side of the slopes, where you can stop off for a well-earned lunch. At the top of La Tania gondola, family-owned Le Bouc Banc was built in 1992 to host the athletes during the Olympic games, and you can sit out on the sun terrace and enjoy classic Savoyarde cuisine. Le Pilatus is also a popular lunch spot, with a splendid view of the Mont Blanc and a reliable menu, or take an easy blue run back down to the Village and enjoy a delicious meal at La Tables de Flocons. Right off the Touvet chair lift, it’s a great place to meet the kids from ski school or enjoy a cosy evening meal in the traditional wooden interior.
For non-skiers, the pedestrian lift pass is perfect for meeting up with friends and family for a mountain lunch, as well as giving access to Courchevel’s circus of walks. Head to Moriond to walk along to Lac de La Rosiere and enjoy a hot chocolate at the little cafe, or grab a snowshoe map and pair of ‘raquettes’ and explore the heart of the mountains. Paragliding is available year-round for those looking for a bit of a thrill, whilst the impressive Moriond Luge track will have you speeding down the mountain side, through underground tunnels and snaking around corners.
During the summer months, many lifts re-open, and you can take advantage of the vast network of mountain trails. Discover the wild grasses and flowers that cover the mountainside, or stop by a lake to dip your toes in the icy water. The area is popular with mountain bikers, or have a go at Via Ferrata and take on the challenge of scaling a rock face.
