Sitting in the centre of Courchevel Village, Apartment Iris enjoys a prime location. A handful of local shops and restaurants are just a short walk away, whilst the Grangettes gondola will transport you swiftly up the mountain to the resort’s central lifts, where an impressive piste map presents endless opportunities.
Originally a mere collection of sheep farms, Courchevel was conceived by a couple of French soldiers during the Second World War. Since the completion of the first lift in 1946, the area has soared in popularity. Forming part of the famed Trois Vallées, there is almost 600km of skiable terrain, and an efficient lift system invites you to drop down into the other districts, discovering the splendid scenery and charming mountain villages.
Topping out at an altitude of 2740m, La Saulire is Courchevel’s highest point and offers the perfect carving opportunity for more seasoned skiers. Combe Saulire is the signature run, or have a go on L’Eclipse, a new black descent created for the 2023 World Championships. A good deal of reds and blues weave between the mountains, whilst dedicated beginner zones are ideal for those wanting to find their feet. Slope-side restaurants invite you to pause for a well-earned lunch, and you can sit in the sun to enjoy a warming dish while soaking up the beautiful views. Sitting beside the altiport, Le Pilatus offers an authentic charm, serving delicious plates of French classics. La Sauilire is a more traditional affair, with wooden panelling and alpine memorabilia that offers the perfect cosy setting after a long day outside. A lively nightlife is centred around 1850, and you can spend an entertaining evening listening to live music at Les Verdons or visit Le Ski Lodge for their heated terrace and generous happy hour.
The resort also has plenty to offer non-skiers, and a pedestrian lift pass is ideal for meeting up with friends and family for lunch on the mountain. Away from the slopes, there is a superb selection of hiking trails to be explored, and you can grab a pair of ‘raquettes’ to spend the day wandering beneath snow-dusted pines or choose a more gentle route out to Lac de la Rosiere. A handful of toboggan runs offer a fun time for all, and Moriond boasts an impressive 3km track where you can race down the mountain, speeding through underground tunnels and around twisting bends.
For those looking for a more relaxing experience, a free shuttle runs along to Aquamotion where you can spend a more subdued afternoon swimming in the outdoor pool or soaking tired muscles in a snow-lined jacuzzi. Kids can enjoy the water slides, whilst a separate wellness zone with steam rooms and sauna is perfect for a quiet indulgence.
