The chic and spacious interiors of Villa Oceane are sure to impress you. Inspired by Californian architect design, step into the vast open-plan living space with its state-of-the-art kitchen, gorgeous lounge and sliding windows opening out to the decked poolside terrace. Villa Oceane sleeps up to 14 guests across its seven double bedrooms, all with queen or king-size beds and ensuite shower rooms (one also featuring a bath). There is air-conditioning throughout most rooms.
With beautifully planted gardens and towering pines, the huge terrace is such an idyllic spot for relaxing by the 18m long heated salt-water infinity pool. Prepare delicious feasts in the summer kitchen to enjoy in the shade, followed by an aperitif or two on the outdoor lounge. The garden was created by an international landscape designer.
With such natural surroundings, the golf club’s restaurant is 2km away or head in the other direction towards the ocean, less than half an hour on foot partly following paths through the woodland. Even better, hire bikes to explore this wonderful area with nature reserves, étangs and forests contrasting the dunes and wild shores of the Atlantic ocean.
The vibrant summer neighbourhood of Penon/Seignosse-Océan is a short drive/cycle away with its restaurants, surfing shops and summer markets. Meanwhile, trendy Hossegor is only 5km to the south, loved for its gastronomic and surfing scene. The beach at Hossegor attracts surfers from across the world whilst there are gentler watersports, sandy beaches and swimming opportunities at Lac d’Hossegor, especially popular with families.
A little further afield, discover the natural beauty and surfing spots around Moliets-et-Maa, also home to another prestigious golf course, or soak up the heritage of Dax with its thermal spas. Villa Oceane is located within one of south-west France’s most beautiful golf courses, Golf Seignosse, just north of the surfing seaside town of Hossegor (5km) and within striking distance to the shores of the Atlantic coastline.
The closest airport is in Biarritz (43km) whilst other airports to consider include Pau-Pyrenees, San Sebastian and Bordeaux. The ferry port in Bilbao is just under a 3-hour drive away and direct TGV train services from Paris arrive at Gare d’Ax (34km).
The vast sandy beach is around 2km away by car, bike or on foot, partly following footpaths through the pine forests backing Plage de Seignosse. To the north is the lively Penon neighbourhood, a short drive/cycle ride away, with restaurants, surfing schools and a waterpark whilst Lac d’Hossegor starts around 2km to the south. In the summer months a delightful market takes place near the Seignosse tourist office (one to three times a week, depending on the date).
You are well placed for visiting the idyllic surroundings of Étang Blanc and the smaller Étang Noir, both within a 10-minute drive. Look out for canoeing, paddle boarding and boats on the larger étang whilst the smaller one can be discovered on foot amongst the reeds and wildlife. Between Étang Blanc and the ocean, come across endless trails through the pine and oak forest.
There is a very picturesque walk along the shores of Lac d’Hossegor beneath the towering pine trees bordering the lake’s edge. Stop off at atmospheric café-restaurants and pretty beaches or partake in watersports and swimming, making the most of the gentler water (compared to the nearby ocean).
By contrast, the wilder Atlantic shores are ideal for surfing – Plage d’Hossegor is known as one of the best surfing spots in France. Food lovers should visit the daily covered market in Hossegor (and Les Halles Gourmands on Thursday evenings in the height of the summer). Look out for regional specialities including Hossegor oysters. There are further wonderful food markets in Capbreton including the fish market offering catch of the day by the port.
Elsewhere, enjoy nature walks through the Barthes wetlands just south of Hossegor or venture north towards the traditional village of Moliets-et-Maa (20km) and the idyllic Courant d’Huchet that flows from the Étang de León, best explored by guided boat tour. Moliets-et-Maa is also known for its fantastic surfing beach and Robert Trent designed golf course.
Driving further south, the Belle Époque seaside resort of Biarritz (45km) is easily reached with its iconic beaches, shops, restaurants and museums, as are pretty Basque villages from Bidart (43km) to Sare and Ainhoa, both within an hour. The historic riverside city of Bayonne (31km) is an attractive day out or soak up the heritage of Dax (36km), famed for its thermal spas.
