Located just 3km away from the spectacular fishing village of Camogli, on the stunning Riviera di Levante, Villa Meridienne is the perfect base for a relaxing holiday in the sun and day trips to the many nearby towns and cities which include Portofino and Genoa. The home is in a residential area, with grand houses and former palaces scattered on the hillside. If you wish to stroll around a pretty village packed with amenities, Camogli is the closest and is a mere 3km away from the villa. Camogli is set on the same peninsula as the exclusive town of Portofino and is just as beautiful. However, fewer tourists visit it, so you will not have as many crowds to compete with when wandering around. Camogli is known as a village, though it is, in fact, quite a large and bustling centre, with tall pastel-coloured buildings which look out to sea. The village is filled with historic buildings and winding streets that hark back to the medieval era when Camogli was known as a naval power with almost 1000 ships. Today, you can still see the marina and historical attractions such as the 12th-century Basilica of Santa Maria Assunta, an ornately frescoed church built into the rock. In addition, you can visit Castel Dragone, a castle that has withstood attacks from pirates and invaders over the years and is a fascinating place to see. The Riviera di Levante is a fantastic choice for those who love spending time on pristine beaches, as the whole area is lined with little swimming coves, sandy stretches and pebbled bays. The closest beach is just 3km away from the villa in Camogli; this is the main beach lined by the village’s colourful buildings. This public beach is pebbled and perfect for a beach day with the kids. There are many more beaches in the neighbouring towns and villages. To find larger shops and eateries, you can drive to Rapallo, which is 10km away. This medieval seaside town has a picturesque shore with its centuries-old castle on the sea’s edge. The castle can be visited and is home to a museum on the area’s local history. Another town highlight is the cable car, which will take you up the rugged hills and to the fantastic 16th-century church, the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Montallegro. The town also boasts lovely beaches and a wide range of restaurants, bars and shops. While staying at Villa Meridienne, you must include a day trip to Portofino. The chic town is known for its exclusive bars, restaurants, boutique shops, and gorgeous scenery. Portofino is 14km away, and you can also take a short boat ride to the nearby village of San Fruttuoso, which can only be reached on foot or from the sea. The main attraction is the beach-side Romanesque Abbey, which has sat on this site for 1000 years. Under the water, there is an incredible bronze statue of Christ, which you can see from the boat or by snorkelling. The Regional Park of Portofino is the perfect location if you like long walks or hiking.
