Sitting at the bottom of the incredible Mount Etna, close to some of Sicily’s most vibrant towns and cities, Villa Filiberto is a brilliant place to stay, where you can explore the natural surroundings, visit the pristine beaches which line the coast and spend the day discovering historic attractions and monuments in the Catania. The closest large city to the home is Catania which is 15km away, but this does not mean you will be isolated during your stay here. Villa Filiberto is located within a leafy residential area which is close to peaceful walking and cycling routes, family-run vineyards and a scattering of sleepy villages. The Roman village of Trecastagni is the closest at just few kilometers away but you can also visit plenty of others such as the charming village of Viagrande which offers a beautiful butterfly house and a Mount Etna museum in addition to the usual shops, cafes and restaurants, Viagrande is a great place to stop for an afternoon stroll and a coffee. If you would like to go sightseeing or shopping, Catania is the place to go! This vast city is just 15km away and is packed with attractions and amenities. Though the city has ancient roots, as you walk through the streets and squares, you will notice the stunning Baroque buildings which were built in the 16th century when the original city was destroyed by an earthquake. Some of the city’s historic sites include the town hall, the Diocesan Museum and the medieval castle which survived the earthquake. One of the most-visited buildings in the city however is a little more unusual- the fish market here is beloved by locals and visitors alike and is a great place to pick some ingredients up for dinner. As well as its lively centre, Catania is also home to some of the closest beaches. There are serviced beach clubs, natural swimming beaches and family beaches on offer here, one of the favourites with locals is La Playa which is 18km away from the villa. If you don’t mind driving a little further to experience a fantastic day out, you should not miss Taormina. The coastal town is 46km away and is a magnet for tourists who flock here to see the unrivalled views and picturesque shopping streets. The Greek-Roman theatre is the main attraction here and it is one of the best preserved in all of Italy. While down on the coast you can visit some tiny, romantic beaches by cable car and gaze out over Isola Bella which is an offshore island which you can explore on foot as it connected to the mainland by a thin strip of sand. Lots of celebrities and VIPs spend time in Taormina, meaning you will find lots of fine-dining restaurants, spas and chic cocktail bars here. A few more wonderful places you can visit include Mount Etna which is 21km away and the ancient city of Syracuse which is 81km away.
