The villa sits within a patchwork of fields and vineyards, close to a small village called Monteu Roero. Just minutes from the home, guests can access country lanes and hiking routes or take picnics with the scenic landscape. If you want to explore further, you can book bike tours, truffle hunting walks or even hot air balloon rides through the home owners. Horse riding, tennis and golf are also available within 20km of the villa, meaning lovers of the outdoors and sporting pursuits will be kept busy. As this area is known for its wine-making, you will also find vineyards and wineries dotted around the nearby hills. One fantastic wine estate you could visit is Battaglio which is 12km away, in the heart of Roero, famous for its wines and truffles. At the vineyard, you can sample the amazing wines and take a tour of the cellars and the grounds, which include the ruins of a medieval castle. The local village offers a few lovely restaurants and bars, which are handy to have so close. When you need a more extensive range of amenities and eateries, you can visit plenty more villages, towns and lively cities within driving distance of the home. The town of Alba is just 18km away and is a town which is known as the gourmet capital of Piedmont due in part to the delightful white truffles which are found in this area. Make sure you are hungry when you get to Alba, as the town has some spectacular cafes and restaurants serving truffles, rabbit, polenta and local wines, amongst many other things. If you are a Nutella or Ferrero Rocher fan, you will be happy to learn that the chocolate products are made here in Alba! Aside from gastronomy, there is lots more to see and do in Alba. Stroll around the historic streets and squares to find Roman gates, Medieval towers, ancient churches and the imposing Duomo di Alba cathedral. From your base at Villa Monteu, you can also drive to the splendid wine city of Asti, which is 32km away or the Piedmontese capital of Turin, which is 48km away by car and is a city packed with museums and galleries.
