Holiday Home Rental Description
Classical elegance awaits you when you rest awhile in the charming Villa Monoko, nestled in the countryside, near the east coast of the Greek island of Lefkada, in the azure waters of the Ionian Sea. Villa Monoko is the last house before the famous Nidri Waterfalls, set in a gorge, surrounded by nature, with a verdant mountain backdrop. The villa has four spacious double bedrooms, and can comfortably accommodate up to ten guests, ideal for a large family holiday, or group of friends’ sharing.
This two-storey, detached villa is set in one thousand six hundred square metres of natural grounds and gardens, surrounded by high stone walls and tall trees for privacy, seclusion, and security. The villa is bordered by a paved terrace, with a stunning centrepiece private swimming pool. The property comes complete with on-site garage parking for two cars, and complimentary air conditioning and Wi-Fi throughout. The exterior of the villa is traditional Mediterranean whitewashed walls, a terracotta tiled roof, a bandstand-style veranda, and garden-view balconies. The interiors are exquisite, with parquet floors throughout, high sloping ceilings, and full-length sliding doors that open onto the pool terrace. Villa Monoko has been stylishly furnished with contemporary pieces, lots of natural wood, and decorated in a calming colour palette of crisp whites, and dreamy creams.
Access your hideaway holiday home through the automatic drive-in gates, and enter Villa Monoko to be welcomed by a light and airy open-plan living space, with double doors that open onto the terrace. The seating area has two cream-coloured, comfy sofas, arranged around a glass coffee table and antiqued pouffe, facing a wood-burning fireplace, and a flat-screen satellite television. The adjacent glass-topped dining table with six white chairs, is ideal for some formal indoor entertaining. The curved wood and steel grey kitchen is fully equipped with all the latest built-in appliances you will need to cater for your holiday, including an American style, family size, double fridge freezer with ice maker, lovely for those cooling summer drinks. A computer desk with an office chair sits in front of a mullioned window with a view of the garden, whilst a guest cloakroom and laundry room complete the ground floor accommodation.
Take the stairs to the first floor, where you will find four beautifully-appointed double bedrooms. The master bedroom has a handcrafted king-size wooden bed, a vaulted ceiling, walk-in wardrobes, an ensuite shower room, and a furnished romantic garden view balcony. The second bedroom also has a king-size bed, and the other two have convertible twin beds, all have their own balconies with views of the pool, garden, or mountain. A large, shared family bathroom, with a big bathtub, hand basin, and WC, rounds off the top floor.
Step through the doors of the living space onto a veranda which runs the length of the house. Under a gazebo, there is a seating set overlooking the pool, the perfect place for breakfast, morning coffee, and light lunches. Take the stairs down to the paved pool surround, where the step-entry swimming pool takes pride of place. Relax on one of the modern mesh sun loungers, positioned under shady parasols. Take a stroll around the superbly maintained gardens, and admire the flowers and shrubs in season. Enjoy a picnic under the mosquito net on the lush green lawn. Villa Monoko can be found hidden in the countryside, near the cosmopolitan resort of Nidri, on the east coast of the Greek island of Lefkada, in the azure Ionian Sea. The villa is twenty-three kilometres from the nearest international airport of Aktion in Prevaza, or you can island hop from Ithaki, Kefalonia or Meganisi. The popular holiday town of Nidri is only two kilometres from the villa, with a beautiful bay and sandy beach, surrounded by lush nature, lots of cafes, bars, souvenir shops, and some splendid super yachts. Take the opportunity to look across the bay to Scorpios, the famous island that was once the home of Aristotle Onassis.
Visit the prehistoric settlement, and the folklore museum, before taking a stroll around the port, from which you can hop on a ferry that connects to the Greek mainland and neighbouring islands. Within walking distance of the villa is the Dimossari Waterfalls of Nidri, that cascade down to the sea, follow the trail, and find the source. There are twenty-two fabulous beaches populating the coastline, the top five most notable ones are Egremni, Porto Katsiki, Kathisma, Milo, and Gialos, take a tour and test them for yourself. Lefkada is famous for its dense forests and mountains; walk, trek, hike, climb or cycle these inland regions, take guided tours on well-worn tracks, and discover the island’s flora and fauna. Admire the views of Mount Elati, the highest peak on Lefkada, at one thousand one hundred and fifty metres above sea level. There’s a whole host of activities you can try your hand at, including horse riding, scuba diving, fishing, and tennis.
Visit the capital town of Lefkes, and walk around the central square of Agios Spyridon, with its Greek Orthodox churches displaying original icons and works of the Ionian School of Painting. Walk down Mela Street, fronted by souvenir shops and traditional houses, before visiting the Archeological, Gramophone, and Folklore Museums. Take a day trip to one of the island’s many picturesque villages, especially the fishing village of Vassilki on the south coast, or Poros with its verdant slopes populated with traditional two-storey, terracotta-roofed houses, winding alleyways, a fourth-century castle, and the Church of Analipsi with its icons and frescoes. See the yachts at Sivota, as you sit and watch the fishing boats unload their daily catch. The village of Santa Maria is rich in the cultural history of the island, with a tiny church, a nineteenth-century castle, a fifteenth-century mosque, and a Venetian Christian temple, with a stone bell tower.
In the protected area of Divari and Ivaria, there are the two sea lake lagoons, home to migratory sea birds, gulls, herons, swans, hares, foxes, and ferrets. No visit to Lefkada is complete with a boat tour around the island, sail the Ionian Sea, swim, and snorkel, sunbathe, enjoy lunch aboard, then embark as the sun begins to set. Visit the vineyards and sample the varieties of wine the island has to offer, and after dark, dance the night away under the twinkling stars.
