Rental Description

The beautiful Villa Afrate is a capsule of contemporary cool and stunning art. It is almost like staying in a trendy art gallery with every imaginative, colourful piece enticing your gaze. The result is a fabulous holiday home sprinkled with vibrant colour splashes as well as absolutely gorgeous contemporary furniture. The villa comes with four very spacious bedrooms, a fabulous open-plan living space and delightful landscaped gardens, a superb terrace and a pool. The villa sits in a fabulous position just six minutes from the centre and sandy beaches of Essaouira. The villa is perfect for either group of friends or a family.

Villa Afrate has been designed to work in unison with the concept of indoor, outdoor living. Its wonderful views of the garden greenery and the pool are maximised by the walls of glass. This is a single-storey property with most of the rooms opening directly to the terrace and garden. Its dreamy living and sleeping spaces are bathed in natural light. The open-plan living room has been brilliantly designed and is superbly comfortable. A feature open fireplace sits at one end of the room, surrounded by lavish sofas, accent chairs and a fab lounger, as well as a very large, wall-mounted television. With exposed, honey-coloured stone walls, the natural colour palette is calming and inviting. In the middle section of the room, there is a wonderful dining table and trendy white chairs. The fully equipped, sleek and stylish American kitchen sits at the end with a fabulous breakfast bar made of stone. Unlike most villas in Essaouira, Villa Afrate does not automatically come with a cook though there are other staff to ensure that the villa and its gardens and pool are immaculate. You are therefore welcome to cater for yourselves, or you can request the services of a cook for an extra fee. The cook will then prepare delicious meals for you and, on request, do your shopping. The choice is yours!

Villa Afrate boasts four incredible bedrooms. Like the living spaces, they are full of gorgeous art and imagination. They all offer direct access to the terrace and garden and sumptuous kingsize beds adorned with luxury linens and beautiful soft furnishings. The first room enjoys an ensuite bathroom with a bath and his and hers sinks. It also has a living area and a television. The second has an ensuite shower room and a living area. The third is gorgeous too, with a shower room, and the last is particularly popular with little ones with its cute, colourful animal accessories.

The villa’s landscaped garden is brimming with beautiful plants, colourful pots, fragrant climbers, palms, cacti and tall trees that ensure complete privacy. The pool is absolutely lovely and a good size at 10m x 6m. It is surrounded by loungers and gorgeous alfresco lounge and dining areas. It is just heavenly and will make you forget all the stresses and strains of everyday life and relax with your loved ones.

The wonderful Villa Afrate enjoys a wonderful setting just minutes from the lively, popular Moroccan seaside resort of Essaouira. Essaouira boasts stunning beaches, thrilling watersports, delicious fresh seafood, camels and a buzzing Medina. The town is very much a working port and fishing town as well as a beautiful tourist hub. It is known for its coastal wind, beautifully named the Alizee, giving the town the name of the ‘Wind City of Africa’.

Compared to the frenzied Medina of Marrakech, you will enjoy a relaxed shopping experience in the Medina of Essaouira. There are five main gates and a laid-back, car-free pedestrian area sprinkled with souks that you can explore at your own pace. You will discover palm-lined avenues lined with art galleries and boutiques. You will enjoy the gorgeous white and blue facades and the striking ramparts. Dating from the late 18th century and added to the UNESCO World Heritage list in 2001, it is a lovely place to stroll. It was famously used in the opening scene of Orson Wells’ 1951 film Othello and Game of Thrones. You will see wonderful live musicians and acrobats in the city and can take a table at one of the ice cream parlours to sit and enjoy them. The Medina is surrounded by dramatic, wave-lashed ramparts which offer spectacular sunset views. The Slala de la Ville 18th-century ramparts protect the Medina and its row of nineteen bronze cannons from the crashing waves and seafaring marauders. Below the ramparts, you will find archway workshops flourishing where artisans create intricate marquetry in local thuya wood. In the old Jewish quarter of the Medina, you will find steam baths that offer an amazing experience. Outside Bab Doukkala, you can hop on a carriage down to the Medina entrance gate nearest the beach.

Essaouira’s busy port is filled with colourful fishing boats. There is a large fish auction in the market hall by the port gates every Saturday, plus you can watch the daily catch being sold every afternoon to the restaurants around the harbour. You will see the sea-blue wooden boats arriving and departing and nets being repaired.

The beaches are great fun for windsurfing and kite surfing though the water is pretty cold. The beach runs for approximately six miles and is popular for walking, football and other sports. Swimming is best in the town stretch as Safi Beach to the north has a strong current. Camel owners are founds on the sands to the south. You can head south across the Ksob River to see the ruins of the Borj El Berod, an old fortress and pavilion at low tide. From here, you can walk inland to the village of Diabat or continue to the sand dunes of Cap Sim.

The Gnaoua World Music Festival is held in June for three days. It is Essaouira’s biggest annual event. The Gnaoua people are descendants of slaves that originated from Black Africa and established brotherhoods throughout Morocco. They are made up of master musicians, metal castanet players, clairvoyants, mediums and their followers. The festival showcases their talents with music and mysticism.
