Rental Description

Guests looking for charm and beauty in abundance for their Moroccan seaside escape will be highly impressed by the gorgeous Villa Ghazoua. It sits in the pretty village of Ghazoua, just ten minutes from the sea and fifteen minutes from the fabulous Medina of Essaouira. Villa Ghazoua is an authentic historical courtyard house with riad styling and the most exquisite furnishings. It comes with four gorgeous bedrooms full of character and colour, wonderful living spaces and fantastic outside space. The villa boasts a swimming pool, a hammam, a courtyard full of plants, trees and entertainment space, a rooftop terrace and a wonderful team who will be waiting to look after you. It is the perfect retreat to spend quality time with your family or favourite friends on the Moroccan coast.

The village of Ghazoua is small, peaceful and charming. It sits on the edge of an argan tree forest within very easy reach of Essaouira, which is only 8km away. Essaouira’s name means ‘little picture’ in Arabic, and this town is a painter’s dream location with its striking blue and white Medina, its spice-scented lanes, its fairytale ramparts built on the cliffs, its imposing stone gates, its colourful port, its fabulous fish market, its wide sandy beach that stretches for miles and its rolling waves sprinkled with kitesurfers having the time of their lives. The Atlantic Ocean’s deserted beaches enjoy a wind that tempers the Moroccan sunshine and whips up those thrilling waves. Essaouira is known as the ‘Bride of the Atlantic’. You can enjoy a traditional Moroccan steam bath with a scrub down with traditional black soap, pick the fish of your choice for dinner, barter in the Medina, enjoy the views from the ramparts, and if you happen to be in Essaouira in June, enjoy the famous Gnaoua World Music Festival. The parapet rampart walk offers views of the Purpuraires Islands and falcons, gulls and seagulls over the nature reserve. The town is famous as Astapor, the red city in the ‘Game of Thrones’.

Villa Ghazoua enjoys the look of an ancient fort. Its sand-coloured exterior blends beautifully with the climbing greenery and vibrant bougainvillaea that grows in abundance. Within these walls, you will discover wonderful inviting spaces where you can relax, eat delicious Moroccan cuisine cooked by your villa chef and spend special time with your loved ones. There are lots of sumptuous floor cushions, Moroccan lanterns and an open fire to offer a crackling atmosphere. Colourful rugs decorate the floors, and rich wooden ceilings will entice your gaze. The villa exhales a deep sense of harmony and authenticity. The heart of the house is the road, a large inner garden brimming with palm trees and bougainvillaea. It also boasts delightful shaded lounge areas. The villa’s four bedrooms all sit around the courtyard. They are lovely spaces. Two enjoy a large sitting area, and all enjoy lavish accessories that will bring a smile to your faces. There is one shared bathroom on the courtyard side and another on the garden side.

The villa is surrounded by beautifully landscaped gardens sprinkled with mimosa, giant cacti, jasmine, papyrus, oleanders and many more wonderful plants. In one corner of the garden, you will find a delightful swimming pool where you can enjoy a refreshing dip and relax on luxury loungers, deckchairs and built-in bench seating. Close to the pool is the very attractive hammam where you can enjoy an indulgent steam bath. You will find lots of lovely little spots where you can settle down with a good book or a glass of your favourite tipple, including the roof terrace. This is also perfect for sunbathing or simply sitting and contemplating and count your blessings.

Villa Ghazoua enjoys a wonderful, tranquil location in the charming small village of Ghazoua, just outside Essaouira and next to an argan forest. Visitors to Essaouira enjoy stunning beaches, thrilling watersports, delicious fresh seafood and a buzzing Medina. The town is very much a working port and fishing town as well as a beautiful tourist hub. It is known for its coastal wind, beautifully named the Alizee, giving the town the name of the ‘Wind City of Africa’.

You will enjoy a relaxed shopping experience in the Medina of Essaouira. There are five main gates and a laid-back, car-free pedestrian area sprinkled with souks that you can explore at your own pace. You will discover palm-lined avenues lined with art galleries and boutiques. You will enjoy the gorgeous white and blue facades and the striking ramparts. Dating from the late 18th century and added to the UNESCO World Heritage list in 2001, it is a lovely place to stroll. It was famously used in the opening scene of Orson Wells’ 1951 film Othello and Game of Thrones. The Medina is surrounded by dramatic, wave-lashed ramparts which offer spectacular sunset views. The Slala de la Ville 18th-century ramparts protect the Medina and its row of nineteen bronze cannons from the crashing waves and seafaring marauders.

Essaouira’s busy port is filled with colourful fishing boats. There is a large fish auction in the market hall by the port gates every Saturday, plus you can watch the daily catch being sold every afternoon to the restaurants around the harbour. You will see the sea-blue wooden boats arriving and departing and nets being repaired.

The beaches are great fun for windsurfing and kite surfing though the water is pretty cold. The beach runs for approximately six miles and is popular for walking, football and other sports. Swimming is best in the town stretch as Safi Beach to the north has a strong current. Camel owners are founds on the sands to the south. You can head south across the Ksob River to see the ruins of the Borj El Berod, an old fortress and pavilion at low tide. From here, you can walk inland to the village of Diabat or continue to the sand dunes of Cap Sim.

The Gnaoua World Music Festival is held in June for three days. It is Essaouira’s biggest annual event. The Gnaoua people are descendants of slaves that originated from Black Africa and established brotherhoods throughout Morocco. They are made up of master musicians, metal castanet players, clairvoyants, mediums and their followers. The festival showcases their talents with music and mysticism.
