Formentor Mallorca’s beautiful northeastern headland is sprinkled with hills and lush forest. Cala Formentor enjoys glistening sands and a fabulously clear sea that is very popular for watersports. A glass-bottomed boat departs from the pier, and catamarans and dinghies are available for hire. There are some great restaurants, a friendly ice cream kiosk near the beach and a good range of beach amenities. The central hotel continues to welcome today’s rich and famous. Some excellent designated vista points on Formentor showcase the entire cape and its surrounding turquoise waters.
The majestic Old Town of Pollensa is famous for its enchanting walls and bustling main square, Placa Major. It is the place to head to for excellent restaurants, coffee and people-watching. The town’s buzzy, popular Sunday market boasts delicious food stands, souvenirs, and leather goods. The three hundred and sixty-five Calvari Steps lead from the Placa Major to the top of the town, where you will enjoy astonishing views and visit the pretty, intimate Church of Nostra Senyora dels Angels. Light spills through the stained glass windows to illuminate its gorgeous interior. Just off the Placa Major are Museo Dionis Bennassar, an unexpected treasure and the home of a famous local artist. Puerto Pollensa is wonderful with its dazzling white sand and shallow, warm water. The marina is amazing, the perfect people-watching spot and also the place for adventure out at sea. Golf fans marvel at the famous Alcanada Golf Club. As well as having superb greens designed by Robert Trent Jones, there are incredible views and a wonderful restaurant. As well as stunning beaches, and fantastic historic towns, nature reigns supreme in Mallorca. The island is popular for its dramatic mountains, fabulous mountain roads, and excellent hiking paths.
The Serra de Tramuntana was declared a UNESCO World Heritage site in 2011 to protect the unique landscape, customs and heritage. The mountains skirt the length of Mallorca’s northern coast. Whether you choose to drive, hike or cycle, there are countless incredible sights to see, from the Moorish terraced hillsides dropping to the sea in Banyalbufar to the stunning clifftop viewing points such as the Mirador de Ricardo Roca and Mirador De Ses Barques, where you can see the lovely resort of Soller in the distance. The blissfully quiet village of Galilea is Mallorca’s highest village. La Torre de Verger is an ancient watchtower perched on the edge of a cliff near Banyalbufar on the west coast. It is a popular spot to watch the breathtaking sunsets. La Reserva Puig Galatzo is a fabulous nature reserve deep in the forest at the western end of the Tramuntana. You can hike the pathways, enjoying the wildlife, pools and waterfalls. The adventure park has Mallorca’s longest zip wire, rock climbing and Tibetan-style suspension bridges. A trip to the mountain range would only be complete with visiting the beautiful Deia. The village is one of the prettiest in Mallorca and has become a playground for the rich.
