When you want to pick up some groceries or sip your morning coffee in a pretty piazza, the nearest town, Rapallo is just few kilometers away from the house. This postcard-worthy coastal town is packed with shops, restaurants and attractions and is wonderful to have so near. This medieval seaside town has a long history as you will see from its unique castle called “the old castle on the sea”. The incredible castle sticks out in to the sea and was constructed in the 1500s to protect the town from attacking pirates. The castle is now a museum which is free to visit. Heading inland and up in to the hill, you will not fail to spot the bright white Sanctuary of Our Lady of Montallegro, a vast 16th century church with an updated exterior and amazing art works inside, a fun way to reach the Sanctuary is by cable car and you will be awarded with incredible panoramic views. You can finish your day here with dinner at a traditional trattoria where you can tuck in to tasty dishes such as freshly baked focaccia.
If you would like a day of rest and relaxation, a beach day is in order! There are many beaches to choose from along the coast, with the closest being just over 1km away. This pretty beach enjoys incredible views over the castle and public as well as paid areas. There are plenty of lovely beaches within easy reach, and if you would like to visit the area’s most beautiful beach Spiaggia Minaglia, you could drive the 5km or take a boat trip from Rapallo’s lively marina.
It would be a shame to miss out on a day trip to Portofino which is one of the region’s best-loved destinations. This pastel-toned, former fishing village is now a chic coastal town where super yachts bob on the water and fine dining restaurants open out on to the gorgeous piazzas. There is plenty to see here, from bay-side Abbeys to an underwater statue of Jesus Christ, but you will be equally happy just strolling around and doing a spot of shopping.
