The villa is set in a pleasant residential neighbourhood in Binibeca around 300m from the local supermarket and a small handful of restaurants, two with terraces overlooking the sea. The Binibeca Diving Centre can be found nearby offering scuba-diving excursions, boat tours and kayak hire.
Binibeca’s picture-perfect beach is around 1km away with sandy shores and gently-shelving water, reached via a path through the pine trees. In the summer months there are sunbeds to hire and it’s a gorgeous spot for snorkelling. There are further snorkelling opportunities along the coast at tiny calas along the rugged shores – look out for confident swimmers jumping off the rocks.
Binibeca Vell (2km) is one of the jewels of the southeastern coast of Menorca, so loved for its narrow alleyways of whitewashed houses, reminiscent of a traditional Mediterranean fishing village. This unique village actually dates back to the 1970s and was designed by a famous Spanish architect – it’s a joy to potter around the warren of flower-filled lanes.
Keen hikers can follow the Cami de Cavalls route towards Binissafuller and beyond or head in the direction of Mahon via Punta Prima and Cala Sant Esteve. You may prefer to drive to the island’s capital, only 13km by car, to explore its charming old quarter, handsome harbour, café terraces, bustling market and gin distilleries.
Meanwhile, sample local wine at one of Menorca’s oldest wineries, Bodegas Binifadet, also home to an excellent restaurant, and spend time visiting the characterful village of Sant Lluis with its windmill dating back to the 18th century, Molí de Dalt.
