Rent La Bastide De Lavande France
Holiday Home Rental Description
With shady plane trees, summer roses, swathes of lavender and the sound of trickling fountains, this exceptional Provençal abode is set amongst the fruit orchards only 3km from L’Isle-sur-la-Sorgue, close to the captivating landscapes of the Luberon.
Dating back to the 17th century, welcome to La Bastide De Lavande. This historic residence has been beautifully renovated to a very high standard and sleeps up to 16 guests in eight air-conditioned en suite bedrooms. In a U shape, the bastide’s elegant living spaces are scattered over the east and west wings which both lead to the courtyard, such an atmospheric spot for al-fresco meals in characterful surroundings.
Relax in the various lounges featuring high-speed Wi-Fi, Smart TVs and a Sonos sound system, prepare your morning coffee and pastries in the breakfast room and create sumptuous feasts in the professional kitchen (a chef can be arranged). From the grandeur of the wood-beamed salon with its piano to the intimacy of the wine cellar, this bastide is full of character and Provençal charm.
There is an idyllic ambience outside as well across the grounds designed by two of France’s best landscape designers. Sit back with a glass of local rosé beneath the century-old plane trees, admire the cypresses, summer roses and lavender, then gaze out beyond the apple orchards towards the mountains.
The stone swimming pool is nearly 200 years old and has been recently restored using a mineral based system. There are ample sun loungers to soak up the sun as well as a pizza oven for lingering lunches or evening meals accompanied by the sound of the cicadas.
The location will enchant you with L’Isle-sur-la-Sorgue just a short cycle or drive away. Potter around the antique stores followed by lunch at Café de France and don’t miss the famous brocante on a Sunday morning which attracts visitors from across the region.
This setting is also perfect for exploring the Luberon with its incredible scenery and perched villages such as Gordes, Ménerbes and Roussillon. Then there’s Avignon and artistic Saint-Rémy, the foothills of Mont Ventoux, the lavender fields of Sault and the historic charm of Aix-en-Provence, all wonderful days out in this beautiful part of southern France.

La Bastide De Lavande is surrounded by apple orchards and farmland so typical of this part of Provence. You can drive or cycle 3km to L’Isle-sur-la-Sorgue (the most energetic of guests could walk along the country roads). Potter around its many antique stores and don’t miss the large Sunday morning brocante that attracts visitors from across the region. Come across restaurants for lunch on a riverside terrace or enjoy an early evening aperitif at the iconic Café de France opposite the beautiful church.
The natural beauty of Fontaine-de-Vaucluse (10km) is within easy reach, a paradise for hikers as well as canoeing/kayaking enthusiasts. Within a 15-minute drive is Golf de Saumane and a tree-top activity centre.
This is also the gateway to the Luberon with its iconic perched villages, vineyards, orchards, forests and incredible scenery. Perhaps start off in Gordes (21km) and the lavender field near Abbaye Notre-Dame de Sénanque before venturing towards yet more of France’s ‘Plus Beaux Villages’ such as Ménerbes (20km) and Roussillon (30km).
In the other direction is Saint-Rémy-de-Provence (29km), where Van Gogh once lived, with its art galleries and Wednesday morning market. Indeed, spend time discovering the pretty villages of Les Alpilles – Eygalières (25km), Les Baux-de-Provence (40km) and Maussane-les-Alpilles (40km) are all lovely spots for lunch (try the local olive oil).
Other great days out include the historic city of Avignon (25km), the foothills of Mont Ventoux around Bédoin (36km), the lavender farms of Sault (53km) and the charming University town of Aix-en-Provence (65km), not far from the landscapes that have inspired so many artists over the years.
