With cobbled streets filled with floral displays, which wind around into pretty piazzas, Casa Fidelio View is a beautiful base for those wishing to spend their holiday in one of Umbria’s most picturesque towns.
If you are searching for somewhere to stay during your trip to Umbria, the town of Spello is hard to beat. Sitting on a hilltop which looks down over the green hills and the little villages in the surrounding area, the town is rated as one of Italy’s most beautiful. The villa sits within the ancient walls which enclose the historic centre, meaning you only need to walk a few paces to discover a wealth of amenities and attractions.
If you plan to take it slow on your break, you could spend the whole time in Spello and the immediate vicinity of the town. The centre has many restaurants, from rustic inns to fine dining eateries. The lively piazzas are also lined with cafes with tables pouring out into the fountain-filled streets and plenty of bars where you can sip a glass of local wine in the evening. There are also many shops here, including delis, craft shops and supermarkets, so you do not need to get in the car to pick up some groceries or souvenirs.
Aside from the great amenities, Spello also has a wealth of attractions for visitors. As the town started as a Roman settlement, there is plenty to see here! There are the original town walls and gates, Roman villas packed with staggering mosaics and ornate churches dotted around the town. You can also learn more about the town’s history at the Civic Museum and the Palaeontology Museum. If you enjoy hearing stories of times gone by and searching for hidden gems in a town, why not book a walking tour with a knowledgeable guide?
If you plan to visit Spello in June, participate in a wonderful event called the Infiorata. This community festival focuses on flowers; you can see the streets filled with artworks made from thousands of flower petals. Visitors are also able to contribute by joining in with guest displays.
If you want to get out to the countryside, you do not have to travel far to find scenic walking trails, mountain biking routes and horseback riding expeditions through dense woodlands. Umbria is known as Italy’s "Green Heart", so those with a car will have many opportunities to get out an explore some of the lush countryside. Wine tastings at family-run vineyards and beach days at Lake Trasimeno are also great options for day trips.
If you want to visit some of the other notable towns and cities in the area, you could drive to Assisi, just 11km away and Perugia, which is 31km away.
