Delightful Delamar Hotel Greenwich Connecticut
So International Excellence Magazine was in Greenwich for an event with Hunton Yachts, introducing this awesome British brand to ultra high net worth at the Delamar Hotel in Connecticut
The Delamar is of course set overlooking Greenwich Harbor so ideal for a yacht party, especially as Hunton were taking the VIPs out around Rocky Neck Point so they could really experience the comfort, speed and unbelievable stability of the boat. The New York yachting fraternity was extremely impressed and the evening was a great success.
The Delamar is the gathering point in Greenwich for the best events, and they run a very efficient ship, hosting numerous weddings and corporate bashes, with people coming from all over the world to celebrate. They have a wonderful terrace overlooking the Harbor where you can enjoy a drink or dine as the sun sets over the water. The bar is extremely popular with the New York crowd and the locals, offering live music and a distinguished but relaxed atmosphere. It is the place to be seen in Greenwich.
L’Escale Restaurant at the Delamar is excellent serving local caught fish in Mediterranean style. Chef Frederic Kieffer has designed a varied and inventive Provençal menu that will transport guests to the Côte d’Azur with the highest-quality seafood and shellfish, seasonal vegetables, regional herbs and spices.
Like most American hotels they are set a little close to the road, but only Europeans would notice that as we prefer our sanctuaries to be found at the end of long winding roads, hidden behind tree lined avenues or woods. Once ensconced in the hotel the marina location takes over and they have rooms with balconies overlooking the bay. This is the ideal hotel to stay in whilst yachting up and down this highly estimated coastline and you can dock your boat right outside. Whilst I was staying there the Utopia III, a 46 metre luxury yacht, pulled up outside and parked in a space with only inches to spare, with ease, an extremely impressive manoeuvre.
The hotel also provides Tesla’s to take you around for free, simply amble out of the front entrance and your chauffeur will take you anywhere you wish to go in the local area. The service and staff are excellent, warm and courteous and always willing to help, in fact stay too long and you start to see them as family, which is how they want it.
Greenwich Avenue with all the shops, bars and restaurants is a five minute walk straight up the street and it’s only seven miles to Tod’s Point, one of the most popular beaches on Long Island, though there are little beaches dotted around the coast, along with numerous marinas, all worth a visit. The Bruce Museum is only a hop away too, with 15,000 objets d’art, natural history and anthropology. You are less than an hour from Manhattan by train (30 mins by car) so it’s a relaxed, friendly and beautiful place to stay, but you can pop into the city for wild nights out too.
Greenwich is a very popular with the well heeled Manhattan crowd, many of whom have second homes here and pop over for the weekend. It’s very Manhattan by the sea, but still small and cosy with a good local crowd so even week days are buzzing in the town restaurants. I highly recommend the Elm Street Oyster House for its seafood and atmosphere, the Mediterraneo for its seafood and attentive service, and Perfect Provenance cafe for the fashion and decor. The Eastend is great for an after dinner drink and Kira Sushi is just perfect for lunch.
All in all Greenwich is a delightful town, the landscapes and the parks are simply stunning, with wonderful wooden colonial style mansion and houses. The people are friendly and fun and The Delamar is the best place to stay. Be warned it’s a very popular hotel so I would recommend booking well in advance.
