The chalet enjoys a wonderful location in Mussillon, one of several charming hamlets close to the centre of the Meribel. With easy access to the Three Valleys ski area, Meribel is one of the most popular destinations for British skiers. Guests stay in typical, characterful, wooden chalets, admire spectacular mountain scenery, ski in one of the largest and most impressive ski domains in the world and let their hair down at the end of the day at one of the town’s renowned apres-ski bars. Meribel itself enjoys 150km of pistes and the Three Valleys, including Courchevel and Val Thorens gives access to a magnificent 600km of pistes. Meribel has retained its mountain village charm within a fabulous forest setting. Clad in wood, stone and slate, Mussillon’s chalets offer comfortable, rustic accommodation within easy reach of the town’s fantastic facilities including its Olympic sports complex, a wonderful array of shops, bars, ski hire shops and restaurants. All of the areas within Meribel are linked by a handy free shuttle bus. Chalet Snap Dragon is just a three minute walk from the bus service which will whisk you to the lifts in the centre at La Chaudanne in no time. Otherwise it is an eight to ten minute walk to the centre of this magical, lively town.
Chalet Snap Dragon’s eight bedrooms sleep up to fifteen guests in total. There are two double rooms, five twin rooms and one family room. The Chalet is very close to another that we feature in Mussillon, Chalet Baldwin, which sleeps up to eleven guests so if there is a big crowd of you, you could always book both chalets. You will have a ball in Meribel. Mussillon itself enjoys its wonderful ‘Brewer’s Den’ craft beer bar and its ‘O Sullivan’s’ bar and club, just three minutes from the chalet. Otherwise you can walk or take the free bus into town for your evening entertainment. Like most of the chalets in Meribel, the chalet is built of stone and timber and features pine wood throughout giving a warm and inviting traditional rustic feel.
On the ground floor you will discover a very welcome sauna, perfect for aching limbs. There is a handy ski room with heated boot rooms and plenty of space for equipment as well as three bedrooms. One of these is a large family suite with four single beds and an ensuite shower room. The bathrooms at this delightful chalet have all been modernised and are wonderful places for a long soak or a power shower. Most of the twin beds are next to each other forming large beds.
The first floor is home to your attractive living spaces. With lovely red accessories, the living room enjoys a very warm ambience. Comfy sofas sit by the roaring fireplace and television, huge floor-to-ceiling glass doors drown the space in light and give access to the terrace and there is a very sociable giant table and chairs at the far end. Just off the dining area is your kitchen with its wooden cabinetry and excellent appliances. There is plenty of space to prepare hearty breakfasts, afternoon teas and delicious evening meals.
After a tiring day on the slopes, there is nothing better than relaxing in your own outdoor hot tub with a glass of bubbles enjoying the magical snowy mountain views in front of you. It is such a treat. You just need to pop out to the terrace. If the sun is shining it is also a lovely spot for afternoon tea with a view. There is a table and some benches on the deck.
You will discover another three bedrooms on the second floor, one being the master with a double bed, a fireplace, balcony and an ensuite bathroom. It is a gorgeous, atmospheric room with brilliant views. The second room is another lovely double with a shower room and the final bedroom on this level is a gorgeous twin.
The final two bedrooms are on the third floor, again with beautifully dressed twin beds and an ensuite shower room. You do not need to pack dressing gowns as these are provided along with fluffy towels. Guests enjoy a mid stay clean at the chalet and a welcome basket and firewood on arrival. Meribel sits in the Tarentaise Valley in the French Alps within the western border of the Vanoise National Park. It is to the east of Chambery and south of Albertville. The resort was actually founded by a Scotsman, Peter Lindsay, as the Austrian resorts were becoming very popular in the years before the war. Although the development of the resort was halted during the war years, it recommenced in 1946 and it quickly became a very popular ski destination. Meribel boasts an excellent, fast and modern ski lift system offering easy access to the resort’s 150 km of pistes and the Three Valleys’ 600 km of pistes. It is very easy to ski over to the delightful Courcheval and the mighty Val Thorens. You can either buy a single resort lift pass keeping to the beginner and intermediate ski terrain or purchase one for the whole area. At its highest skiing point, Meribel reaches an altitude of 2952 metres and the descent into the town is incredibly scenic. Within Meribel, the Altiport area is best for beginners while Saulire and Tougnete are for mixed ability and the Mont du Vallon with its long, steep runs is great for advanced skiers. This is all against a gorgeous mountain backdrop. Meribel itself offers seventy-three ski runs of which nine are green, thirty are blue, twenty-six are red and eight are black. The resort also boasts plenty of off-piste entertainment and snow park activities such as snowboarding, jumps and freestyle skiing. There is a snowpark at Meribel Mottaret and a moon park. Other sports available at Meribel include ice skating, snowmobiles, hang gliding and ice climbing.
