The enclosed grounds are charming with lovely lawns for sunbathing and terraces for dining al-fresco whether a leisurely lunch or summery evening meal by the barbecue under the starry sky. You may even spot a roaming chicken as you wander around the spacious gardens, marvelling at the gentle landscapes around you.
This is western Burgundy, a region of pretty scenery, picturesque villages and historic towns. The area is filled with activity whether its playing tennis nearby, hiking, cycling or horse-riding through the countryside or canoeing on nearby lakes or rivers. There are also tree-top adventures, farms for the children and brilliant castles for all the family including fascinating Guédelon where you can watch a 13th century castle being built using only authentic tools and locally sourced materials.
Visit one of Burgundy’s prettiest markets on a Saturday morning in Toucy, take a walk by the river in Clamecy and visit the famous hilltop town of Vézelay with its 12th century Basilica. Wine-lovers should head to Sancerre, just across the Loire river or north to the vineyards around Chablis, perhaps combined with a visit to amazing Auxerre with its historic centre and towering cathedral.
Maison Vogue offers a fine and characterful home, perfectly positioned for both exploring and relaxing in this restful yet enchanting region.   In a rural setting in western Burgundy, Maison Vogue is located in the Yonne department, near the Nievre border and under an hour from the Loire river. This part of Burgundy offers picturesque rural countryside, pretty villages and fascinating historic towns as well as fine wines to discover.
You only have to head out of the drive-way and the road leads you straight to the local village in just under 3km where you will find a restaurant and grocery store. There are also larger supermarkets just outside Clamecy (20km), a delightful medieval town where the Yonne and Beuvron rivers meet and the Nivernais Canal crosses over. The town was famous for its wood transportation until the 19th century and it’s a very pretty place to explore with pleasant riverside walks or cycle paths along the canal heading towards the picturesque Burgundy countryside.
This region is also fantastic for a great range of activities such as tennis and horse-riding nearby as well as glorious cycle paths and beautiful hiking opportunities. Lac du Bourdon (24km) offers fishing, canoeing and wonderful walks along its shore or nearby woodlands. Tree-top adventurers should head to Nature Adventure (20km) with all sorts of activities on offer including paintballing.
Another local attraction is Guédelon (22km) where you can watch a 13th century castle being built using only authentic tools and locally sourced materials, taking many years, as well as other interesting events taking place on site.
Further north, visit the town of Saint-Fargeau (28km) with its remarkable castle open from Spring to Autumn, sometimes featuring special events such as amazing re-enactments. Furthermore, on a Saturday morning, don’t miss the lovely market in Toucy (30km) which has been voted one of the prettiest markets in Burgundy.
One of the most unmissable highlights of this area is the famous and charming hilltop town of Vézelay (42km), on the pilgrimage route to Santiago de Compostela. Visit the 12th century Basilica followed by a stroll through the beautifully preserved streets full of colourful flowers in the summer months. Enjoy stunning views of the surrounding Burgundy countryside as you walk the circular route around Vézelay.
Auxerre (46km), the capital of the Yonne department, is under an hours drive and a lovely place to visit with its historic town centre, towering cathedral and ancient houses. Wine-lovers should combine this with a trip to Chablis (63km), a charming village surrounded by some of the region’s finest vineyards.
Heading west over the Loire river, wine-lovers will appreciate being only 45-minutes from Sancerre (40km), a picturesque village with more than 300 vineyards or wine caves in the surrounding area where you can often sample and buy the white wines of this region. If wine isn’t your thing, the local goat’s cheese is also held in high esteem!
Near the Loire, you could also head to the attractive town of Gien (70km), just over an hour away, with its weekly market or explore Briare (57km) where the Loire crosses the Canal de Briare, a lovely place for walks, boat and canal trips.
