Step through the pretty blue door of this traditional village house into the stylish living-dining room with its lovely open-plan kitchen. The wood beamed ceiling and stone walls add character and the furnishings have been chosen with great care. A second lounge has a sofa-bed and an adjacent shower room whilst upstairs there are two pretty double bedrooms and modern en suite shower rooms. Sleeping up to 4 guests, the maison offers style, space and great comfort.
Wander down the steps and out to the charming courtyard with its little garden and al-fresco dining table, the perfect spot to enjoy a glass or two of local Chardonnay on warm summer evenings with family or friends.
Just across from the courtyard is a second property, available when booking for 6 guests. The open-air living and dining space is superb, designed with such contemporary elegance alongside its 18th century wood beams. Upstairs an inviting double bedroom and gorgeous bathroom, perfect for two guests (and a sofa-bed downstairs). There is even a raised seating area with picturesque views over the vineyards of Meursault.
Within a few steps you are in the heart of Meursault with its boulangeries, supermarket, bars and well regarded restaurants. Soak up the ambience at the weekly Farmer’s market, perhaps buying some local delicacies to take on a picnic to the vineyards. After all, the Voie Verte, popular with walkers and cyclists, passes close to the village linking you to other idyllic wine villages along the Route des Grands Crus such as Volnay and Pommard.
Beaune, the wine-capital of Burgundy, is just a short drive away – visit on market day and make sure you see the famous Hospices de Beaune. Chagny is also close by, home to another atmospheric market and the 100-year old restaurant, Maison Lameloise, with its three Michelin stars.
Head to the mustard stores in Dijon, visit the Roman ruins of Autun and gasp at the splendour of the magnificent abbey in Cluny. Or get away from it all and discover the breathtaking natural surroundings of Parc Naturel Régional du Morvan.
However you spend your time in Burgundy, you couldn’t be better positioned for fine wine, exceptional cuisine and all the beauty that this region has to offer. Maison Ravel enjoys a privileged position in the heart of one of Burgundy’s most prestigious wine villages, Meursault, on the well-known Route des Grands Crus, just a 10-minute drive from Beaune, the wine-capital of Burgundy.
When arriving, drop your passengers and bags off at the maison, then drive a little further for plenty of free parking within a one or two-minute walk.
Meursault is a quiet and charming village where you will find two boulangeries for fresh bread and pastries in the morning as well as a small supermarket, bank, pharmacy and other useful amenities. There is also a choice of bars and excellent restaurants that you can walk to for a hearty lunch or evening meal.
Other idyllic villages located along the Route des Grands Crus include Puligny-Montrachet, Pommard and Volnay, all within four to five kilometres. Hiring a bike is a great way to discover these wine-villages, cycling through the surrounding vineyards, or keen walkers can stroll to wineries and local village restaurants, always admiring the wonderful Burgundy landscapes.
A visit to Chagny (9km) is also a must, not just for its three starred Michelin restaurant, Maison Lameloise, but also its wonderful market on a Sunday morning. It’s also a great spot for walking or cycling by the canal and fishing is also popular close by.
There are many other high-end restaurants dotted across this region including other Michelin starred establishments in Levernois and Beaune.
