Chateau Albatre France
Holiday Home Rental Description
There’s an air of both romance and warmth in this beautiful French château, located just a ten-minute drive from the vast beaches of the Côte d’Albâtre in northern Normandy.
Whether spending time with family and friends or celebrating a special event, Château Albâtre is a welcoming and delightful abode for up to 30 guests across its manoir and annexe. It is set in picturesque gardens with century-old towering trees, summer flowers and glorious spots for peaceful relaxation amidst the greenery and French beauty. There is ample space for children to play whilst you enjoy a glass of local calvados by the al-fresco lounge. Guests can also pre-book the château’s heated jacuzzi, another fantastic feature of this home.
Inside the manoir it’s both cosy and spacious with comfort throughout and an ambience of majestic character. The bedrooms are so pretty, each with their own style including doubles with impressive beds, charming twins and a sweet nursery – children are very welcome here and there are some lovely toys.
Keen chefs will adore the traditional and well-equipped kitchen whilst the living and dining space are perfect for relaxed evenings with loved ones. Château Albâtre is a genuine home filled with love and decorated with style, affection and historic charm.
It’s wonderful to be able to wander down to the local small town with its restaurants, supermarkets and Sunday morning market, whilst the Alabaster coast is just a 10-minute drive away. Build sandcastles on the beach or kite-surf in the sea at Saint-Aubin-sur-Mer, admire the stunning scenery at Varengeville-sur-Mer or walk along the coast near Sotteville-sur-Mer.
One of France’s ‘Plus Beaux Villages’, Veules les Roses, is only 12km away with its gorgeous river, waterwheels, thatched cottages and little stalls selling salt and freshwater oysters by the brilliant beach. Dieppe is another fine day out, especially on market day, or drive west towards the dramatic cliffs of Étretat or the dreamy French seaside resorts of Honfleur and Deauville.
Rouen is also just an hour away and Monet’s Giverny Gardens a little further. That said, with such natural beauty so close to you, you needn’t travel far to experience the very best of this beautiful part of Normandy and its captivating coast. Château Albâtre is set in its own glorious gardens, within walking distance to a village/small town, just a ten-minute drive to the Normandy coast. If arriving by ferry, Dieppe is half an hour away whilst Le Havre, Caen-Ouistreham and Calais are reached in two to three hours.
There is a variety of shops and restaurants in the local village, a short walk away, as well as three supermarkets and a delightful Sunday morning market where you can pick up all sorts of regional specialities such as cider, cheese, meat and other Normandy products.
Part of the Seine-Maritime department, the famous Pays de Caux coast is around a ten-minute drive away. At the beaches nearby you will find long stretches of pebbles or sand, often backed by glorious cliffs that this coastline is so well known for. Plage de Quiberville-sur-Mer has a sailing centre as well as places to eat whilst Saint Aubin sur Mer has a large sandy beach, a kite-surfing school and a fish market with the catch of the day.
Sotteville-sur-Mer is another special place to visit with its staircase of over 200 steps leading down to the glorious beach whilst Varengeville-sur-Mer has yet more amazing scenery, especially around the Valleuse-de-Vasterival, a narrow valley between the cliffs that leads to the sea. There are also many wonderful walking paths along this part of the coast, including the GR21.
No doubt one of the prettiest local villages is Veules les Roses – after all it is one of France’s classified ‘Plus Beaux Villages’. Walk along the idyllic river with its watermills, pass the former fishing village’s thatched cottages and then head to the beach with its attractive promenade and pier. Look out for Veulaise, a local speciality – salt and freshwater oysters which are sold by the beach at the weekend.
The town of Dieppe is only 20km away with its vibrant marina, historic maritime traditions and characterful restaurants serving fish stew. Dieppe’s market is a particular draw on a Saturday morning, often referred to as one of the best (and largest) markets in Normandy. Specialities to look out for include Neufchâtel cheese, local scallops and all sorts of fresh fruit and vegetables, depending on what may be in season.
Other day trips include Étretat (60km) and its famous white cliffs or the martime town of Le Havre (82km) with its post-war architecture, now a UNESCO World Heritage site. Experience the authenticity of the French seaside resorts of Honfleur or Deauville, around 90 minutes by car, or drive inland to Monet’s Garden in Giverny, perhaps passing beautiful Rouen en route.
