Rental Description

Just on the edge of artistic Mougins, this is a wonderful home to come back to after a day at the beach in Cannes or a visit to one of the other exquisite towns and villages in the hinterland of the glorious Côte d’Azur.
Maison Magna is an impressive holiday residence surrounded by splendidly spacious gardens mostly set to lawn and dotted with a scattering of iconic olive and cypress trees. After swimming in the superbly based heated pool, wander back to relax on the loungers on the extensive covered terraces.
Step inside the air-conditioned house and you might imagine you have entered some prestigious gallery as you notice the light and space, intriguing architectural features and carefully placed art work and installations. You’ll soon notice all the comforts and luxuries of modern living are subtly integrated into the design – even the lamps are set on plinths. Wide expanses of glass doors stretch across the ground floor areas, showcasing fabulous views of the garden.
The luxurious master bedroom has its own dressing room whilst one of the upstairs bedrooms has a steam bathroom and private balcony to enjoy a peaceful glass of wine at the end of the day. As well as three en suite bedrooms in the main part of the villa, the annexe is home to an independent double studio with its own kitchenette as well as a first-floor twin.
The villa is located in a prestigious neighbourhood just outside the pretty village of Mougins where you can pick up your breakfast croissants, dine at one of its fine restaurants or browse in a gallery or two. You are also perfectly positioned for cooling walks through the Valmasque woodland close by.
Head towards Cannes where the famous Boulevard de la Croisette curves around the coast, lined with fantastic beaches and glamorous hotels. For tranquillity away from the city bustle, take the ferry to the beautiful Lérins Islands or drive eastwards towards Juan Les Pins and Cap d’Antibes.
There are plenty of inland pleasures – a game at the exclusive Cannes Mougins Golf Club, a forest hike, designing your own perfume in Grasse, relaxing at a pavement café in Valbonne or tasting olive oil in an old mill in the tiny village of Opio.Maison Magna is located in a prestigious residential area just outside the beautiful village of Mougins, only 9km from Cannes and the glorious beaches of the French Riviera.
The heart of historic Mougins is around 2.5km away whilst, even closer on the outskirts of the village, you will find a handful of local restaurants and a bakery. A large supermarket is around a 5-minute drive away.
The medieval village is surrounded by the Valmasque forest and its hilltop setting provides great views across to the Baie de Cannes, the Lérins Islands, Grasse and the Pre-Alpes. In the heart of old Mougins, ancient narrow streets contain restaurants, art galleries and museums, a delight for both art and food lovers.
The area is also renowned for its many golf courses, especially the exclusive Par 71 Cannes Mougins Golf Club while tennis, squash and horse riding can also be found nearby. If you prefer walking, the Valmasque forest is wonderful and there are many trails to follow. If visiting in the summer, don’t miss the lotus flowers that bloom from July to September in the nearby Etang de Fontmerle on the edge of Parc de Valmasque.
Cannes (9km) is of course renowned for its annual film festival when the stars pose on the 24 steps of red carpet. The iconic Boulevard de la Croisette curves for a mile around the coast with some superb sandy beaches – you’ll definitely be able to spot celebrities shopping in the Rue d’Antibes or relaxing on their huge yachts or private beaches. For a change of scene, take a ferry away from the city to the tranquillity and beauty of two of the largest Lérins Islands where there are some lovely beaches.
Drive eastwards along the coast road for around 13km towards the forested Cap d’Antibes peninsular between the fashionable resort of Juan-Les-Pins and the ramparts of Antibes which overlook the luxury yachts in the marina below.
When it is time to explore the hinterland, take a day trip to the perfume capital of the world – most of the famous perfume houses in Grasse, 13km away, offer free tours and you can even design your own brand to take home. Learn about the history of perfume at the International Perfume Museum and, when your senses are overwhelmed, wander around picture postcard streets or browse in the artisan shops and little boutiques.
Opio (12km), is a tiny hilltop village perched on a hill near Grasse where roses and jasmine are grown for the perfume industry and delicious locally produced olive oil can be purchased at the mill. Even closer, Valbonne (6km) is a quiet medieval town whose historic centre has been restored and as you walk past the cascades of bougainvillea, you will surely find a restaurant with tables in the street where you can sample some of the local speciality wine, made from Servan grapes. The market on a Friday morning is also not to be missed.
There is a lovely 9km walk along the river from Valbonne to Biot (12km), another pretty hilltop town best known for its “bubble” glassblowing tradition. A little further afield but well worth the drive, you will love the artistic character of Vence (26km) and St Paul de Vence (26km) – don’t miss Matisse’s enchanting Chapelle du Rosaire just a short walk from Vence. At Excellence Luxury Villas we pride ourselves on going that little bit further for our guests.
