Villa Des Parfums France
Holiday Home Rental Description
There’s such an abundance of charm at this 19th century villa just a short stroll from the heart of historic Grasse in the Côte d’Azur hinterland, only 18km from Cannes and its French Riviera beaches.
The first thing you’ll be yearning to do is climb the characterful stone steps to the very top of Villa des Parfum’s vast grounds and take in those sensational views over the valley towards the Mediterranean. Followed of course by a swim in the inviting pool which is 20m long, the largest in the neighbourhood! Poolside sun-loungers and a covered dining terrace allow you to truly relax in spectacular surroundings.
Back to the villa itself, passing its lush gardens as you go, come across little patios and idyllic terraces just perfect for a quiet read or perhaps a convivial apéritif amongst the olive trees as the evening nears. Inside the residence, which dates back to 1800, there’s an elegant lounge and dining room, a brilliantly equipped kitchen and TV lounge.
Across the villa, there’s a wonderful sense of old-world charm around you yet with the benefit of 21st century features including the air-conditioned gym with its treadmill, cross-trainer and yoga equipment. Each of the four beautiful bedrooms also feature air-conditioning – we especially love the master double with its private bathroom and yet more superb views.
With its swimming pool and vast outdoor space, it’s hard to believe you are so close to central Grasse – just wander down the steps, through the gate and follow the road to the heart of the historic town, famed for its rich perfume heritage. Discover the daily flower market, pick up all sorts of gourmet delights of Provence and seek out pretty cafes, wine-bars and restaurants. Admire the incredible artwork by Rubens in the 12th century Cathédrale Notre-Dame Du Puy.
Within easy reach of Grasse you have a wealth of picturesque hilltop villages as well as glorious landscapes for hiking, cycling and horse-riding. Dine out in Cabris, gaze at the views from Gourdon, soak up the ambience of Valbonne’s Friday morning market and follow Picasso’s footsteps in flower-filled Mougins.
The glitz and glamour of the French Riviera is also close by! Cannes’ palm-fringed shores are around 18km away and the chic beachside restaurants of Juan-Les-Pins are also easily reached. Cap d’Antibes offers gorgeous bays and coastal hikes whilst the old town of Antibes is a must-see with its historic ramparts, Picasso museum, warren of medieval lanes and mega-yacht marina. Villa des Parfums is walking distance to the historic town of Grasse in the Alpes-Maritimes department of the Côte d’Azur hinterland, only 18km from Cannes and just over half an hour from Nice Airport. If arriving by train, the TGV stops at Cannes or there is a train station in Grasse around 1.5km from the villa.
Located in a residential district with other neighbouring houses, just walk down the steps, through the gate and walk along the road (with a narrow pavement) all the way towards central Grasse, around a 10 to 15-minute walk away. As well as Grasse’s world-famous perfume studios and the Musée International de la Parfumerie, it’s a beautiful town just to stroll around as you come across charming cafes, restaurants, wine-bars and pretty markets. There’s a flower and food market most mornings at Place aux Herbes whilst the larger Provencal market takes place on a Saturday morning at Place aux Aires.
There are so many picture-perfect villages within a short drive such as hilltop Cabris (6km), a gorgeous spot for lunch on one of the restaurant terraces, and Gourdon (15km), a typically perched village with the most stunning views. Pass the incredible Gorges du Loup en route and continue on to the Saut du Loup waterfalls. This part of the Alpes-Maritimes is ideal for hiking and other outdoor adventures such as canyoning and rock-climbing.
The picturesque and historic town of Valbonne (10km) is especially worthy of a visit for its Friday morning market whilst Mougins (12km) is a must for food-lovers and art enthusiasts as you follow Picasso’s footsteps and dine out in one of the village’s gastronomic restaurants. There’s a wonderful hiking route between Valbonne and Biot following the Brague River or there are gentler walks through the Valmasque Forest.
In just under half an hour you can be strolling along Cannes’ La Croisette, one of France’s most famous boulevards, or relaxing on the city’s palm-fringed shores. Explore the vibrant markets, potter around the old quarter, admire the huge yachts in the marina, take a boat tour of the coast or even hop on a ferry to the tranquil Lérins Islands.
Juan-Les-Pins (27km) is another superb spot for beaches, summer watersports and atmospheric restaurants whilst Cap d’Antibes is home to some idyllic small bays and coastal hiking trails. The old town of Antibes itself may surprise you with its historic charm, much-loved by visitors from across the French Riviera.
