This home, built in the 1880s, is brimming with character. HBO location scouts thought so too as a couple of TV series have been filmed in the charming rooms. Perhaps it’s the original hardwood floors or the coffered ceilings that draw the eye, or the beautiful Art-Deco touches. There’s something of a Cluedo-mansion feel to the grand foyer with its twisting wooden staircase, and we can easily see a detective pacing the lounge with its fireplace, big bay window and magenta chaise longue. For a less formal get-together, there’s a family snug where shelves are brimming with board games. On a practical level, the kitchen is fully stocked, bedrooms have desks if you need to get some work done and there’s a home gym too. Heading out to the garden, you’re amidst towering trees for privacy. Take a seat on the patio and let the kids run free on the lawn. There’s a fire pit at the bottom of the garden for chilly evenings and a barbecue for summer nights. Spend days exploring the surrounding breweries, hiking trails and restaurants of downtown White Plains (a five-minute walk), or catch the two-stop NYC express train for a day in the Big Apple.
