The villa’s integrated kitchen is equally stylish, with a contemporary breakfast bar that seats up to six guests and shiny black and white surfaces and appliances. You’ll find plenty of food-preparation space and storage, allowing you to prepare delicious family meals, and the area is fully-equipped with high-end amenities, including a fridge-freezer, integrated oven and microwave, and all of the crockery, utensils and glassware you’ll need during your stay.
Casa Poncho is situated all on one level, making it ideal for families with young children, older guests or those with limited mobility, and it features two spacious and elegantly decorated bedrooms. Both rooms have double beds, built-in wardrobes and flatscreen TVs, and the master benefits from having an ensuite shower room. The villa’s bedrooms provide a fresh and quiet haven, promising guests a restful night’s sleep, and for larger groups, the living area’s sofa converts into another double bed, taking the property’s capacity up to six.
The villa’s grounds are equally impressive, with a covered dining terrace, seating areas furnished with high-end tables and chairs, sun loungers, hammocks and a decked pool terrace. The private pool is the perfect spot to unwind after a busy day and is easily accessible by Roman steps, making it ideal for young children. Casa Poncho is located in the Playa del Ingles beach resort in Maspalomas, one of the island’s most popular and exclusive areas. Guests here are just a few steps away from the region’s famous golden dunes, a protected site that covers over a thousand acres. Most of the dunes can be explored on foot, allowing you to take in sights such as the beautiful lagoon and lighthouse, but we recommend taking a 40-minute camel safari for a truly unique and fun way to experience this incredible landscape.
The plentiful local markets are always a big hit with tourists and locals alike and are a wonderful way to while away a few hours – particularly on a Saturday when the area is at its most bustling. You’ll find a wide range of stalls selling everything from clothing to fresh produce, including many aloe vera products – native to Gran Canaria. Shopaholics will really be in their element staying on this part of the island, with a range of lower-end and high-end shops. Boulevard Faro in Maspalomas is well-known for its upmarket shopping area, where you’ll find labels such as La Perla, Burberry and Tommy Hilfiger. You’ll find this area to the right of the Maspalomas lighthouse, and if you walk further along the beach, you’ll come to the Bellavista and El Varadero shopping centres, which are home to a variety of bars, cafes and restaurants as well as shops and boutiques.
The Maspalomas Botanic Garden is an often underrated attraction that is well worth a visit while you’re here. Situated right next to the Salobre golf course, this collection of cacti and brightly coloured flowers provide the perfect photo opportunity pit-stop before you head off for a bite to eat – and this is where you’re really about to be spoiled for choice! Maspalomas is bursting with fantastic seafront restaurants that offer a dazzling array of cuisines, along with some incredibly breathtaking views. If seafood is a particular favourite, you’re in for a treat and will find no shortage of places offering fresh, local fish dishes, including prawns, octopus, grilled calamari and seafood paella. For those who are more turf than surf, there are a number of good, family-friendly restaurants serving steaks and burgers, as well as pasta dishes – and in addition, there are plenty of bars where you can enjoy cocktails and pre-dinner drinks.
