Enjoy a home from home holiday when you vacation in the charming Villa Alya, nestled in the hills of Hisaronu, near Turkey’s Turquoise Coast. This pretty, two-storey, detached villa has three bedrooms and can comfortably accommodate up to six guests, which is ideal for a family holiday or a small group of friends sharing. The villa is built out of a mixture of local stone and traditional whitewashed walls that have been painted in the loveliest sunshine yellow. Set in its grounds, Villa Ayla is surrounded by lush green shrubs and colourful flowers in season, with a spacious tiled terrace and a centrepiece private swimming pool. The Taurus mountain forms the backdrop to the property, and the terrace and bedroom balconies benefit from the dramatic view. The villa has a private parking spot, complimentary air conditioning, and Wi-Fi. The interiors are delightfully furnished with lots of natural wood and wicker, decorated with classic white walls and a warm palette of soft creamy beiges with primary colour highlights. Whilst floor to ceiling sliding glass doors let in lots of natural light and cool mountain breezes.
Enter the villa on the ground floor, where you will find a welcoming, cosy holiday home. The seating area has two comfy white sofas decorated with turquoise cushions, a handy white coffee table, a cabinet with a flat-screen satellite television, a DVD player and a PlayStation, and doors that lead to the terrace. The adjacent dining area has a smart white table, six chairs, and a traditional Turkish wood-burning soba for those cooler months and evenings. The separate kitchen is fully equipped with everything you will need to cater for your holiday, including an oven and hob, a family-sized fridge freezer, a dishwasher and washing machine, a microwave and that must-have morning coffee maker, as well as a breakfast table and chairs. A shower room with a WC and hand basin completes the ground floor. Take the stairs to the first floor, where you will find three double bedrooms. The master bedroom has a double bed, an ensuite bathroom with a bath and a shower, and a mountain view furnished balcony. The second bedroom has a double bed, the third two single beds, and a shared bathroom with a walk-in shower, hand basin and WC.
Access the garden and tiled terrace through the sliding glass door living space, where you will find your ladder-entry eleven-metre long swimming pool. The pool has a shallow end, ideal for children, long enough to swim a few lengths in, and inviting enough for a cooling afternoon dip. The pool is surrounded by relaxing blue cushioned sun loungers with matching shady parasols and a swing seat just made for two. Under the veranda, there is a six-seater wicker dining set with a round glass table and portable barbeque. The perfect place for meeting for sun downer cocktails before dining alfresco on freshly grilled Turkish delicacies under a twinkling sky. Villa Alya is nestled in the hills of the holiday hot spot of Hisaronu, a forty-five minute drive from Dalaman international airport. It is perfectly situated betwixt and between the bustling town of Fethiye and the desirable resort destination of Olu Deniz, both just fifteen minutes away. For holiday provisions, local shops and restaurants are just a four hundred metre walk away. Hisaronu is home to a host of supermarkets, cafes, bars, restaurants, a busy nightlife, and some super souvenir shops. Take a short drive down to Oludeniz, where you will find one of the world’s best golden blue flag sandy beaches, the iconic and much photographed blue lagoon and spit, and adrenalin-inducing water sports. In the evening, the town comes alive with lively seashore restaurants and bars and a chance to indulge in exclusive shopping. From Olu Deniz, you can hop aboard a water taxi to Butterfly Valley or cross the sea to Gemile Island, aka Aya Nikola, a natural protected area that is now an open-air museum. For the thrill seekers, head up the hill and take the cable car to the top of Mount Babadag; at almost two thousand metres, you can jump off and paraglide solo or in tandem and land on Olu Deniz beach. For shopping and the city, Fethiye is your go-to destination. Fethiye is a harbour town with yachts moored the length of the coastline, home to an ancient amphitheatre, a historical museum and rock tombs, and an embarkation point for the obligatory Twelve Island boat trip. There is a foodie-heaven fish market for a catch of the day fabulous feast, super souvenir shops selling your favourite designer brands, and famed for its large local Tuesday market selling everything from homegrown organic produce to hand-crafted art and artefacts. A walk around the newly paved panoramic coastline will take you to the town and beach of Calis, home to more restaurants and bars and a local market.
If it’s history you are after, you’ve come to the right place; hike the local Lycian Way and take a trip through time. Trace the past with trips to Xanthos, the ancient capital of Lycia, and home to the oldest republic in the world, now a UNESCO World Heritage Site; discover mosaics, amphitheatres, agoras, and an acropolis. Walk the ancient ruins of Patara, the birthplace of St Nicholas, better known as Santa Claus, and lose yourself to its twenty kilometres of sandy beach, home to the famous Turkish Caretta Caretta breeding turtles. Explore the rock tombs of Tlos, carved in the façade of the ancient city ruins, where you will find a necropolis, Roman baths, and an Ottoman Basilica. Head for Letoon to see the mosaic of the goddess Leto as you wander through the Temple of Apollo. Whilst the honeycomb cliffs of Pinara hosts nine hundred rock tombs and a theatre in a verdant setting. In Fethiye, you will find ancient sites dating back to two hundred years BC, the Lycian city of Telmessos, and the rock tombs of Amyntas, as well as sarcophagi, and a theatre immediately opposite the harbour, built to hold six thousand spectators, climb to the top for some fabulous sea views. Bring all of this together in the Fethiye Museum, full of local history, culture, and ephemera, most notably the Trilingual Stele, excavated at Letoon and inscribed with the languages of Lycia, Ancient Greek and Aramaic.
