Sitting high in a quiet residential area, Villa Aysun is an ultra-modern seven-bedroom property sleeping fourteen guests. Contemporary in structure, the architecture is sleek, a seamless blend of stone walls and glass. Built on four levels, the house boasts glorious seascape vistas and panoramic views of Kalkan. Some of its most superb features are the magnificent roof terrace, which is the only place to be when golden hour comes, and the vast sun drenched infinity pool and terrace. Villa Aysun is a superb choice for two families travelling together or even a large group of friends. Located in Kiziltas, it is less than ten minutes outside of Kalkan so it’s easy to dip in and out of the action as and when you like. Kalkan is a beautiful and cosmopolitan harbour town, set on the southwest coast of Turkey, it is renowned for its terrific choice of beach clubs and surprising number of elegant roof terrace restaurants.
Villa Aysun will please even those who relish the very best. The outside space is large, peppered with fragrant leafy potted plants and a lawn is home to a dedicated ping pong area. The sophisticated sundeck is roomy, dotted with plenty of day beds for the entire party. There is also an alfresco lounge with luxurious rattan furniture, snuggle in with a good book or sit back and soak up those inspiring views over a glass of wine or two. The open air dining area is thoughtfully placed under the shade of a pergola and the built in barbecue has plenty of room on the grill. The infinity pool is certainly the star of the show, enjoying glorious views over Kalkan and out to sea. Imagine, long poolside dinners with your best people, under a Milky Way of stars.
Inside, no expense has been spared and a neutral palette is balanced with charcoal grey fittings and furnishings. The open plan kitchen and living area is extensive. Glass doors open onto the alfresco dining terrace, which is both beautiful and functional when transporting your culinary masterpiece from the well equipped kitchen.
Each of the seven en-suite bedrooms are presented beautifully and a good night’s sleep awaits. Every bedroom is spacious and elegantly furnished, five are doubles with far-reaching views to sea and some have unique features such as a large free-standing jacuzzi or a lengthy furnished balcony for some quiet downtime. Two twin bedrooms are ideal for children sharing.

The town enjoys a glorious position, inviting exploration of the region’s ancient sites, wildlife and rural hidden gems. From the villa, the centre is less than ten minutes away by car so its convenient to come and go as you please. The town itself has the prettiest waterfront setting and it rises up the hillside from a thriving harbour. Framed by the Taurus Mountain range, Kalkan is sea facing boasting marvellous shades of blue. Even when meandering through cobbled passageways in the old town, your eyes will find glimmers of glistening sea.
Outdoor adventuring opportunities are plentiful and some of our favourites include tandem paragliding from the peak of Baba Dag Mountain. Enjoy the descent over the ‘ghost village’ of Kayakoy and famous lagoon at Olu Deniz. Take in a section of the popular Lycian Way walking trail which is considered to be one of the ten best walking routes in the world, stretching over 500km. It is unquestionably one of the best ways to explore Turkey’s vast landscape and see a scattering of historical artefacts. It is also possible to secure excursions locally, such as kayaking over the sunken city of Kekova or rafting down the icy cold Xanthos river near Saklikent Gorge.
If a subdued pace of life is more your thing, then make time to visit some of Kalkan’s beaches and laid back beach clubs. Swimming opportunities are plentiful so it might be nice to venture beyond the pool and soak up the local scene. Kaputas Beach is possibly one of the best in the region, famous for its turquoise waters, it’s an instagrammers paradise. Patara Beach is another popular choice, known for its 18 kilometre stretch of golden sand. The area has avoided mass tourism due to its nature reserve status and ancient Lycian site. Stop off for some photos and a wander around the ruins before heading for the beach.
If you fancy a leisurely lunch out of the sun, or an evening away from the town, flee for the mountains. Islamlar is an authentic rural village set in the foothills of the Taurus range. The area is famed for its slightly cooler air and fast flowing spring water.
