Rent House Cedar Hazelnut Cheshire
Holiday Home Rental Description
Built in 1885 for Thomas Hughes, the author of Tom Brown’s School Days – this stunning Grade II listed home in Dee Hills Park, Chester, is a real gem. Affectionately known by locals as ‘the castle’, it was designed by Edward Ould, best known for Trinity Hall and Selwyn College at Cambridge University. We love the grand turrets with their lead finial spires, the handsome stone mullion windows, and the beautiful drawing room with its chandeliers, antiques, and views out over the Cheshire countryside and the River Dee.
Start your day with a soak in the slipper bath in the master ensuite with its glorious vistas, then have breakfast on the terrace, set amidst manicured grounds. Then, take a stroll down to the riverbank – the Chester Canal runs but five-hundred yards from the home.
When you feel like exploring, Chester’s city centre, with its pretty black-and-white timber-framed Tudor-style buildings, is a ten-minute walk away. Once a Roman fortress, take a stroll along its two miles of Roman walls made of local red sandstone or visit its Roman Amphitheatre. For a family day out, drive ten to fifteen minutes up to Chester Zoo – one of the UK’s largest – or check out the Blue Planet Aquarium with its underwater tunnel and collection of sharks, a fifteen-minute drive away.
