Several beautiful bays and beaches line this part of the coast, and you’ll find the likes of Trevose Head and Harlyn Bay just a few minutes’ drive away.
You can join the Camel Trail at Padstow and enjoying a lengthy walk or cycle ride amongst stunning countryside. Alternatively, head down the coast to Newquay for more amazing beaches, surfing and family-friendly attractions such as Newquay Zoo and the Blue Reef Aquarium – this ever-popular town is less than 30 minutes from Constantine Bay.Pretty Constantine Bay lies just 5km from Padstow on Cornwall’s northern coast. A very popular surfing beach, suitable for experienced surfers, Constantine is not far from Harlyn Bay which is considered more suitable for beginners. The large area of golden sand here makes it a popular family choice too.
Constantine Bay is within reach of many of the North Cornwall coast’s best-known destinations, with Port Isaac and Tintagel to the north, and Newquay and Perranporth to the south. Its close proximity to Padstow is ideal if you want to walk or cycle the popular Camel Trail which runs from Padstow to Bodmin.
Padstow itself has been put on the map by TV chef Rick Stein in recent years, and his original establishment, ‘The Seafood Restaurant’, is still a fixture of the town’s food scene. Since 1975, this relaxed eatery has been bringing the best local seafood to Padstow diners and enjoys a wonderful view out over the Camel Estuary. Rick’s are not the only noteworthy places to eat, however. Paul Ainsworth has several restaurants around the area too, including No. 6 and Caffè Rojano.
Not far from Padstow, you’ll find the Camel Creek Adventure Park. This big theme park and play centre has all you will need for an easy family day out. If you cross to the south of the county, you can enjoy similar thrills at Flambards near Helston. A long-time local favourite, this park also throws some historically themed exhibits into the mix, such as Britain in the Blitz and a recreation of a Victorian street.
With Newquay around 30 minutes’ drive from Constantine Bay, you can easily head south and visit Newquay Zoo. There are more than 100 animals to see, including monkeys, lions and zebras. If you are particularly into marine life you won’t want to miss the Blue Reef Aquarium either, another of Newquay’s highlights.
The town’s beaches boast a combined length of seven miles, with Newquay considered by many to be the place to surf in the UK. The largest and most famous of them, Fistral Beach is home to the National Surfing Centre Surf School.
Further south, follow the scenic St Agnes Heritage Coast and you will eventually come to Penwith, where Sennen Cove and Land’s End are among the must-sees. Further on in Porthcurno, the spectacular open-air Minack Theatre is really something special. With the sea as its backdrop, you can arrange to explore the theatre for yourself when there isn’t a show on.
Cornwall has plenty of stunning gardens to admire, and none more famous than those of the incredible Eden Project, which is well worth the 40-minute journey from Constantine Bay.
