The star of the show is undoubtedly the alfresco jacuzzi, where guests can take a relaxing soak among rose petals and gaze out at the dreamy garden views. A bright, open space with one charming bedroom, Villa Ibon also has a pull out 5ft sofa bed that can accommodate two extra guests.
Decorated in a contemporary tropical style, the villa has to calm, duck egg blue walls with wood panelling. A feature wall of bright blue with yellow cornflowers provides a gorgeous focal point. Floor to ceiling windows ensures the villa is sun-soaked and airy. The living room has its own separate pavilion, where guests can curl up on the plush white sofa with vibrant scatter cushions. There is a flatscreen television mounted on the wall, ideal for an impromptu movie night.
In the bedroom, sink into the delightfully comfortable double bed, with crisp white linen and green cushions. You can enjoy fantastic views from the bed, and by the window, there is a colourful flower arrangement. Grey rugs adorn the hardwood floors, while wood panelling frames everything and adds a sense of rustic luxury. There is also a television in the bedroom. An ensuite bathroom in a deeper shade of blue has a rain shower, which is beautifully relaxing and invigorating.
Just beyond the bedroom, there is a dressing area with plenty of open wardrobe space, for those who like to bring options. There’s a desk with a big mirror, perfect for getting ready or writing some holiday postcards. Outside, there’s plenty of gorgeous greenery and foliage, perfect for nature lovers. Enjoy a fruity cocktail out on the decking and breathe in the fresh air.
Room service is available, and guests can dine alfresco at the circular table on the decking – alternatively, venture out to the resort’s four restaurants. Coffee and tea making facilities are available, and four bottles of drinking water are provided daily, free of charge. Perfectly placed within the Ansara Resort, guests staying at this villa have their own private space, but can easily access all the activities and amenities at the resort. The villa is just a few moments from a gorgeous white sand beach, and guests can take surfing lessons at Pakarang Beach – it’s suitable for beginners.
You don’t even have to leave the resort to get a famous Thai massage – visit the spa for an invigorating massage, designed to relax aching muscles and relieve stress. Guests can also enjoy spa therapies designed to purify the skin. The lagoon setting adds to the relaxed atmosphere.There are four restaurants and bars on-site, each offering their own cuisine and experience.
Kinnaree restaurant serves international cuisine and buffets with exotic garden views and a chilled atmosphere. Napalai has fusion Thai food served all day by the pool, while the Zeus Beach Bar is perfect for alfresco barbecues and light snacks. You can also indulge in sunset cocktails on the sand. The Horizon bar provides wine and cocktails in a charming, rustic setting.
Guests can also utilise one of two on-site gyms, which have an impressive range of state of the art equipment including an elliptical, exercise bikes and treadmills. There are also many free weights. Check out the resort’s Beauty and the Beast style library of dreams, where you can read books and magazines in peace – perfect for those who have forgotten their reading material. Additionally, there are multiple swimming pools around the resort for guests to enjoy.
The beaches of Khao Lak are truly idyllic and unlike its island counterparts, much less crowded with a mixed crowd of locals and tourists. Khuk Khak beach has picture-perfect white sand and glittering turquoise sea. Soak up the gorgeous views with palm trees swaying in the gentle tropical breeze. There is also a daily local market here, perfect for picking up some exotic fruit and snacks for the beach.
Another option nearby is Bang Niang beach, which has fantastic swimming and snorkelling because of the crystal clear water – see if you can spot some colourful fish and coral. Take a leisurely stroll along the beach to Nang Thong, or enjoy a spectacular sunset at one of the lively beach bars.
Khao Lak has a museum dedicated to the people who lost their lives in the Boxing Day tsunami of 2004. This small museum displays stories and photographs, as well as a local police boat. Khao Lak was one of the areas hit hardest by the tsunami and tourism here helps to support local people and their livelihoods.
Khao Lak is the perfect jumping-off point to visit the nearby Surin or Similan islands, both of which offer some of the most impressive scuba diving in the world. On the Surin islands, you might spot wild dolphins, sea turtles or even reef sharks. As well as scuba diving, the area is famous for great snorkelling.
