Wow – we were almost rendered speechless by this Venetian home (it doesn’t happen often). Prepare to wax lyrical when you see the incredible views across the Canal della Giudecca, over to San Marco and the Doge’s Palace. If that wasn’t enough, there’s vistas of Santa Maria della Salute and glimpses of the Grand Canal, as well as San Giorgio Maggiore and Riva degli Schiavoni. We were overwhelmed by the panorama. But let’s not forget the interiors – they are a Venetian feast for the eyes.
The salon has a gorgeous Murano chandelier, while the dining room is dominated by a large tapestry – it’s perfect for a decadent dinner party. We adore the ceiling fresco in the bedroom – there’s even Renaissance style figures and murals gracing the walls and hall. We were wondering who, over the recent years, had been working at the desk here – writers, philosophers perhaps – inspired by the lagoon waters reflected in its glass top. There’s a small terrace here too – open up the doors and let the fresh Venice air in. This place is a true gem.
Set at the water’s edge of the Canale of Giudecca, next to one of architect Palladio’s masterpieces, the Church of the Santissimo Redentore, this abode’s location is almost as wonderful as the home itself. Giudecca is one of Venice’s best kept secrets – here you can mix with the locals and sample some of the city’s best restaurants and bars. There’s a vaporetto 30 metres from your door and Piazza San Marco is three stops away (a nine-minute ride). If you fancy a trip to the Lido or Biennale – there’s a direct boat to take you there as well.
