Apartment Albertina Portugal
Holiday Home Rental Description
Strikingly bohemian and filled with unique design touches, this three-bedroom apartment for up to six guests is bursting with a certain distinctively Portuguese charm, offering a characterful base for your discoveries of the ever-exuberant city of Lisbon.
Centrally located in Baixa Pombalina, one of Lisbon’s most vibrant neighbourhoods, this home is spread over a single upper level within a historic building typical of the area. Step into its warm and inviting spaces and you will be greeted by an expansive-feeling living area; a space brought to life by its large traditionally-shuttered windows overlooking the quiet street below and the splashes of bright sunflower-yellow mingled with calming blues on the authentic painted tiles adorning the walls.A cosy seating area complete with funky furnishings opens into a laid-back dining room, where we can just imagine sitting down to a delicious homecooked meal laden with rich Portuguese flavours. The open-plan living space leads onto a compact yet contemporary kitchen boasting loads of handy storage – perfect for longer stays – and finished with yet more attention-grabbing tiling.
Move through the minimalist corridors and you will find two more low-key double bedrooms, one of which is ensuite, finished in a rest-promoting palette of neutral tones. The three bathrooms – consisting of one with a luxuriously deep bathtub, one with an impressive walk-in shower and quirky patterned floor tiles, and a separate WC – provide the perfect place to efresh, relax, and pamper yourself before stepping out to see what lively Lisbon has in store.
You will find yourself positioned right in the heart of this eclectic city, with loads of its main attractions right on your doorstep. Take the short stroll over to the imposing Church of Saint Anthony and its adjoining museum just moments from the home, or while away an afternoon perusing the buzzing streets of Baixa Pombalina – being sure to stop for a Pastel de Nata (or two) before heading up to the Miradouro da Senhora do Monte to watch the golden sunset. As evening rolls in, perhaps it’s time to sample some of the effervescent nightlife that animates these streets?Despite its sought-after central location, Apartment Albertina is tucked away down a tranquil side street, affording you a taste of the best of both sides of Lisbon. Baixa Pombalina is an area equally popular with both tourists and Lisbon locals, offering a wealth of great restaurants serving everything from traditional Portuguese cuisine to fresh, modern fusion to delight even the most discerning of palates. You’ll also find a host of bars bubbling with the chatter of visitors and Lisboetas alike (or ‘Alfacinhas’, meaning ‘little lettuces’, as they are sometimes known – don’t ask us why).
Within walking distance of the Barrio Alto (the ‘old town’) and some of the city’s most salubrious cultural offerings, including the Museu Nacional de Arte Antiga which houses an awe-inspiring collection of ancient artworks, this apartment allows you to truly immerse yourself in Lisbon; not only in its past, but also in its present, and, as you stroll through the lively streets, catch a glimpse of its colourful future.
We love nothing more than meandering through the atmospheric cobbled streets of this multifaceted city, taking in the various sights, sounds, and smells that create its distinctive ambience. Should you get tired of walking, however, hop aboard one of the many iconic and readily accessible trams that bustle busily up and down hilly laneways and offer easy access to many of the main sites and attractions. From the beautiful Belém Tower, a one-time prison that now constitutes one of the city’s most popular tourist spots, to the sprawling Rossio Square close to the city’s main shopping area and characterised by its slightly psychedelic tiles, there are spectacular sights to take in almost everywhere you look.
Known as the ‘City of Seven Hills’, there are few places that offer a wider variety of stunning vistas as lovely Lisbon. Be it gazing out over the incredibly wide waters of the Tagus River, or snapping panoramic pictures of the pastel-hued buildings, the myriad ‘miradouros’ (or simply ‘viewpoints’ to the uninitiated) offer a feast for eyes and plenty of camera-roll fodder. Many of the miradouros also house shops, cafes, and bars from where you can watch the city live and breathe below whilst sipping a sundowner.
As one of the oldest cities in the world and the second-oldest European capital, Lisbon is of course bursting at the seams with diverse historical sites and a range of cultural monuments. Among our favourites are the Castelo dos Mouros and the Castelo de São Jorge (the latter of which is less than half a mile from the home) while the Palácio dos Marqueses de Fronteira, as well as the various monasteries, are not to be missed either, providing a fascinating glimpse back in time to the country’s religious, Imperialist past. Don’t be fooled by its classical architecture and lengthy history, however, this is a city very much in step with the 21st century.
