As the ceiling fan whirls in the den and you sink into one of the leather armchairs, looking up at the map of Charleston, it’s easy to forget this is the 21st century. This home is a taste of the old world, set in the heart of one of the USA’s most historic cities. And in keeping with the area, its baby pink exterior and shuttered windows speak of days gone by. The theme continues inside with antique furnishings and plenty of original features. We particularly love the den, with its classic feel and impressive ceiling map. But there are modern conveniences here too, with a fully equipped kitchen and updated bathrooms in a traditional style. With loads of character and a pretty garden to boot, it’s just perfect for relaxed southern days – sip sundowners on the balcony or watch the world go by from the wrap-around veranda. It’s only a two-minute walk to King Street and its many restaurants, but we won’t blame you if you want to put the gourmet kitchen through its paces and serve outside in the breeze.

*The home has several extra beds (including a sofa bed in the den and a pull-out trundle bed in the second bedroom) but this is for flexibility and shouldn’t be used to increase the capacity

*You’ll have one free off-street parking space which should fit any size vehicle – but don’t try to squash two into the space
*Pets and parties are not permitted – service dogs are fine but will need prior permission
