We love homes with a story, and this gem in the French Quarter certainly has a tale to tell. It once belonged to Dianna Brown, the first black woman in Charleston to own an antique shop. The home fell into disrepair after her death in 1949, but was recently bought by a young couple, who have spent years lovingly restoring it. It’s now listed with the National Registry of Historic Places. The result is modern, bright, and full of charm. Original features, including fireplaces and floor-to-ceiling sash windows, sit alongside bold turquoise and lime green prints and supremely comfortable beds. But it’s the considered nod to this home’s former life that we like the most – the gilded table lamps, antique wooden desks and gold framed paintings. Just a short walk from King Street, you’ll have everything you need at your fingertips, and after a day pounding the pretty pavements, relax with a cocktail on the piazza.
