We love that, and how the sense of luxury here is accompanied by homely pot plants, clusters of cushions and bursting bookshelves. The building’s exterior isn’t quite so handsome, but that merely makes the wonderment inside feel more of a smug secret. Surrounding Clerkenwell boasts a trendy design scene and exulted coffee shops.

* One of the bathroom floors has a stunning limestone floor which is very susceptible to staining. Carol likes to keep it pristine by covering it with a less beautiful rug.
* The terrace doors are quite tricky to open and close. Make sure you get a proper lesson on how to use them upon arrival.
