And when the sea finally calls, you won’t have far to go. Take your pick from four sandy beaches along this mighty coastal stretch. Our vote goes to South Bay (a seven-minute walk away), where you’ll find a charming pier with all the fish and chips and ice cream sundaes you could muster and donkey rides on the beach for a big helping of seaside nostalgia.
Then it’s back home for sunset barbecues in the walled garden. Cradled by grade II listed walls that form part of St Mary’s monastery, it’s a charming spot to end the evening. And you can always chase the sun out onto the balcony – the sunsets from up here are spell bounding.
