Scalcia Paola is a beautifully rustic villa located in the Massa Lubrense commune in the South of Italy. This area is made up of rugged countryside, a collection of connected hamlets and towns and expansive beaches along the popular Amalfi Coast. The villa is well-situated to make the most of all of these nearby attractions and sits overlooking the blue waters of the Tyrrhenian sea and the breath-taking island of Capri which is visible from all around the house and gardens.
The villa itself is just as impressive as the panoramic views outside and the natural materials and subtle colour palettes allow the Mediterranean feel to flow into the house. The four airy and spacious bedrooms can sleep up to eight guests and with lots of gorgeous living spaces, this is the ideal home for a relaxing break. As well as plenty of space and stunning décor, Scalcia Paola also has all of the practical things you and your family need; including Wi-Fi, TVs, air-conditioning and also bookshelves packed with books for when you wish to take some time out on the terrace.
The garden is also a fantastic space, with a private pool, grassy areas for sunbathing and covered areas for eating and chatting, everyone is bound to love spending time out there. The views from the garden are a highlight and from here you are able to watch the sunset over the Island of Capri in the evening with a glass of local wine.
From the villa, it is only a short walk to a village with a selection of local shops, cafes and restaurants and the villa sits surrounded by lovely villages and towns. There are plenty of amenities nearby making this a brilliant base for a holiday on the Amalfi coast. The closest beach is around 3km away but there are so many that you can choose between small swimming coves and wild, rugged natural beaches.
If you wish to take a few day trips then you are well located to do so, nearby you will find the villages of Marciano, Termini, Marina del Cantone and Nerano plus many more. Each of these villages have eateries, shops, historical attractions and plenty of Italian charm and all are within 5 km of the villa. If you want to explore more of the area, you could visit Sorrento, the preserved city of Pompeii away or even Naples.Scalcia Paola is located in the Massa Lubrense region of the South of Italy, surrounded by beautiful coastlines and little villages. The villa is in walking distance of plenty of cafes, shops and restaurants which means you can spend days relaxing by the pool and nip out to a local restaurant with ease in the evening.
The villa is also perfectly placed for exploring more of the Amalfi coast and nearby towns and villages such as Massa Lubrense, Sorrento and Marina del Cantone. Massa Lubrense is a 7km drive away and is a coastal town which is quiet compared to some of its neighbours. The town is known for its marina which offers great views and has some lovely restaurants, but one of the main draws of the town is the walking routes that head out to the 17 hamlets which are within the greater commune of Massa Lubrense. The 17 frazioni or hamlets are all joined by interwoven pathways and donkey tracks and offer walks through olive and lemon groves with stunning scenery, your villa is located in one of these hamlets so you could walk there if you are feeling adventurous.
If you prefer chic cafes to walks in the lemon groves, then take a trip to Sorrento which is 13km away from the villa. Sorrento is a popular seaside holiday town and so has lots on offer for your whole party. The winding streets and hills are crammed full of artisan and antique shops and there are a variety of eateries; from trendy hillside restaurants to seafood fresh from the boats at the marina. The town also has gorgeous cobbled piazzas with old churches, museums and galleries at every turn. Make sure to visit the Museum Correale if you are an art-lover, the museum is housed in an 18th-century villa surrounded by citrus trees and terraces which are open to visitors. Inside you can find a range of local artefacts, paintings, sculptures and ceramics and the building itself is well worth a visit.
Marina del Cantone is 5km from the house and is small but has plenty of charm; this little village has a pebble beach with stunning turquoise waters as well as shops and cafes. Quite unusually for a tiny coastal village, there are several high-end restaurants here as people sail over from the Island of Capri. If you would like to visit Capri yourself, then you could have breakfast in the village and then take a boat trip over to the amazing island where you could spend the whole day. The rugged island is situated in the Bay of Naples and is filled with natural attractions including the Blue Grotto cave which can be visited by boat. The island is also famous for its shopping; you can find everything from designer boutiques to little Limoncello stalls on the island.
The villa is a great base to explore the South of Italy from and there are many more sites to see and towns to visit if you wish to. The archaeological site of Pompeii is an hour away by car or by organised tour and is a must-see.
