Binibeca Negroni Spain
Holiday Home Rental Description
This elegant villa is perfect for a relaxing break in the sunshine. Open plan living is a breeze here, as the living space has open sides where guests can weave in and out and large floor to ceiling windows. Step outside to admire the spacious lawn and garden and unwind on the furnished porch, where you will find cosy sofas.
There is a spacious aquamarine pool that is long enough for serious swimming – it’s shaded by a wall for privacy. Soak up the Menorcan sun on the solarium on the upper floor – some of the bedrooms have direct access to it. The focal point of the living space is the marble spiral staircase that leads up to the bedrooms.
Antique-style carved wooden furniture adds interest, while an array of woven rugs add texture and colour. The rest of the living space is decorated in soft grey, which acts as a blank canvas for the bright armchairs, green houseplants and art. There are plenty of plush sofas to sink into and a nice view of the garden from this area.
Just beyond this is the dining area, where guests can enjoy a home-cooked meal together. Lattice-style wooden chairs are placed around the table, with an interesting wooden chandelier up above. The kitchen is sophisticated and decked out all in black, with a marble-topped kitchen island. You’ll find everything you need for self-catering here, including an oven.
Bedrooms are decorated in a minimal yet chic style, with crisp Egyptian 300-thread count linen on the beds. There are pops of colour throughout, including jade green and taupe. A muted print of palm trees features on the headboards and on the cushions. Little design touches like a row of cacti and multicoloured woven chairs add splashes of character. White curtains flutter in the breeze like gossamer.
The bathrooms at this villa are designed in marble in white or taupe, with stylish tiles on the wall and smart, glass cubicle showers. There are large mirrors that provide plenty of space for getting ready to go out. American terrycloth towels are provided for guest use.
Perfectly placed in quaint Binibeca, this villa is tucked away yet within easy reach of lots of amenities. The area is made up of Binibeca Vell, modelled on a former fishing village, with lots of limestone houses, and Cala Torret, where you will find more bars and restaurants. The villa is just 500m from a stunning blue-flag beach, and the area is family-friendly with a charming atmosphere. Menorca as an island has a more languid feel than some of the other Balearic islands such as Majorca and Ibiza, making it the perfect spot for a relaxed holiday. In the evenings, there is live music.
Binibeca beach is a gorgeous bay with sloping white sand and warm, shallow water, set against pine trees and volcanic cliffs. The area is perfect for families with children, and there is great snorkelling around the rocks nearby. Electric fun boats, kayaks and bicycles can be rented in this area and ice creams and snacks are sold behind the beach.
In the same area, there are also four other smaller coves – Binisafuller, Biniancolla, Biniparratx and Binidali which are lovely, peaceful spots to visit. The area also offers great diving, with a well-regarded diving school nearby. Of course, seeing as Menorca is surrounded by 216km of white sandy coastline, there are excellent coves – or ‘calas’ all over.
The Calas Coves have swirling shades of blue water framed by cliffs and are just 17km from the villa. The coves have a mystical quality and are popular with locals and tourists alike. However, the island’s best-kept secret has to be Cala Escorxada, accessed by a one hour hike from Santo Tomás. Follow the coastal route to be rewarded with a tranquil beach with glittering turquoise water.
The island’s capital, Mahon is just a 20 minutes drive from the villa. The harbour of Mao is a 2km long stretch lined with cafes, art galleries and boutiques. Menorca is famous for shoemaking, so a lovely souvenir would be some locally-made avarcas sandals. Descend the steps of the harbour to spot luxury yachts and visit the gin distillery, where you can take a tour and sample some local Xoriguer gin. In the restaurants, you can try Menorquin delicacies like lobster stew, baked squid or octopus and sobrassada – paprika-spiced sausages.
For a thrilling experience that showcases the best of Menorca’s wildlife, check out Jeep Safari Menorca. Local guides take groups of passengers in 4x4s around the backroads of the island, spotting exotic flora and fauna. It’s a superb way to learn more about local life and the animals of the island. Menorca was made a Biosphere resort in 1993, which ensures that its natural beauty is protected. Admirably, the locals take exceptional care of their island and its biodiversity.
