Annatto Estate is a grandiose holiday home that sits on two acres of immaculately-kept tropical gardens. The glamourous home has been visited by movie stars Greta Garbo and Claudette Colbert. The home was designed by renowned English designer and architect Oliver Messel who stayed here during the 1950’s and became inspired, as you will likely be too.
Annatto Estate is like a palace and boasts stunning trees, plants and well-kept lawns. The inside and outside and connected, allowing you to effortlessly flow in between them. The home’s veranda possesses cosy sofas and a dining area overlooking the pool and sea. There are two small sheltered seating areas at the end of the pool that sit amongst the garden’s towering palm trees.
Inside, guests can admire the charming pastel colour palette and quaint ornaments and furniture which all complement each other. It is clear that a lot of thought and effort has gone into the design process. Beautiful little touches such as vibrant plants, artworks and artistic lamps and ornaments can be seen throughout the villa, adding to its unique and opulent character. The striking dining room opens out onto the gardens and possesses stone walls, a crystal chandelier, and stone statues. This is fine dining at its best!
One of the villa’s bedrooms comes complete with curtains around the bed, offering complete privacy for a serene sleep. All of the bedrooms benefit from air-conditioning, high-quality bedding, and furniture that has been immaculately hand-painted – nothing is missing for a completely private and relaxing experience.Local craftsmanship is a beautiful way to learn about the people of Barbados. Tiyi By Design Jewelry Studio is just a 10-minute walk away. The studio is full of stunning hand-crafted jewellery, created by artist Ichia Tiyi who is more than happy to help you pick a design. Visitors will be able to watch Ichia work and even have the opportunity of creating a piece of jewellery for themselves – a permanent and lovingly made souvenir.
Speightstown is the nearest town to the villa and the beautiful Speightstown Mural can be reached via a 10-minute stroll. The hyper-realistic mural is decorated in Tromp l’oeil artwork to depict the local history of the area. Created in 2012, the mural is emblazoned onto the wall of a building and is a fantastic way to tell the stories of the island.
By embarking on a short 12-minute drive, you will discover the Farley Hill National Park in the Parish of Saint Peter. Here, visitors will come across one of the most spectacular views that the island has to offer. Farley Hill isn’t just any old park, it is the grounds of an ancient plantation house and boasts enchanting mahogany trees and glorious views over the Atlantic Ocean.
