A superb four-bedroom villa in the upscale Saint James parish, Happy Trees enjoys an excellent location on the Sandy Lane Estate. Near Holetown on Barbados’ western coast, this villa is well-equipped, elegantly furnished and just steps away from the beach. You will also enjoy the use of a beach cabana and over an acre of landscaped grounds.
This is a modern and eco-friendly villa, making use of solar water heaters, LED lighting and recycled roof materials among other features. The adjustable slatted roof allows you to let more light in as required, or keep the sun out. Indoor and outdoor lighting and music systems controlled using wall switches or one of two iPads allow you to dim or brighten the lighting in the garden and the house.
 A furnished, covered terrace with seating and dining areas leads you through to the living space. This impressive central space looks right out on the ocean and has a relaxed, beachside feel. There is a well-equipped kitchen in the same open-plan area, and with staff on hand to cook for you, you won’t need to become too familiar with its many appliances. Flatscreens with Apple TV and DirecTV, and Wi-Fi, provide entertainment whenever you want it.
In one wing of the house, the four en -suite bedrooms look out onto the gardens, each one of them superbly stylish and air-conditioned. The bathrooms are a real treat in themselves, so long showers are even more pleasurable than usual. Outside, the gorgeous salt water infinity pool is waiting for you, with a lounge area perfect for cocktails and sunbathing.
Nearby Holetown has a lot to uncover when you do venture out, including irresistible beachfront dining and gorgeous sunset strolls down on the boardwalk. You can look forward to high-end shopping, nightlife and live entertainment, and you’ll be just a short drive from the capital, Bridgetown, and a host of beautiful gardens and Bajan landmarks.On the upscale west coast of Barbados, the Saint James parish is known with good reason as the island’s ‘platinum coast’. Aside from being a celebrity hangout, the area is famed for its beautiful white sand beaches, various golf courses and excellent dining options, as well as luxury brand shopping.
One of the area’s main towns, Holetown, is a good place to get acquainted with what Saint James has to offer. The Limegrove Lifestyle Centre brings shopping and entertainment together, with dozens of high-end stores, a multi-screen cinema and regular live events, from music concerts to art shows and craft fairs, while colourful Chattel village sets its shops in scenic tropical gardens.
The beachfront walks are another highlight, and particularly spectacular if you happen to be there at sunset. Eateries like Zaccios and Tides occupy some of the prime ocean-view locations, and with views like those, chances are you will want to try them out.
Holetown’s big annual event comes around each February – the Holetown Festival is a commemoration of the first settlement on the island in 1627. It’s a broad and lively celebration, encompassing everything from fashion shows and beauty contests to vintage car parades, sporting events and a Police Tattoo, and it’s a great opportunity to sample Bajan delights like macaroni pie and Barbados rum.
The town is also a centre for nightlife, concentrated mainly on Holetown’s First and Second Streets. Cool hangouts like the Red Door Lounge prove that Barbadians know how to party, and are very happy for you to join them.
