Java Bay is a fabulous sprawling 5000 sqft Balinese villa, designed by the London architect Harper Downie. It is situated on a stunning ¾ acre (30000 sqft) ridge plot within the exclusive gated community of Calijanda, adjoining the swanky Royal Westmoreland and Sugar Hill estates. With five unique and stylish bedrooms, the villa sleeps nine guests.
The villa overlooks the dazzling west coast of Barbados, with 180 degree stunning views and within a five-minute drive of Holetown with its fabulous restaurants, beaches and amenities. There is a charming nightlife near the beach and exclusive shopping. The UNESCO World Heritage listed capital Bridgetown is not far away and the beautiful, rolling interior sprinkled with unique plantation houses, lush botanic gardens and sugar cane fields is a short drive away. The stunning west coast boasts brilliant turquoise bays and the quieter east, a wild, heart-racing surf.
Java Bay is fabulously private with luxury finishes and fascinating décor and design. You will spend your whole time noticing things you didn’t first appreciate. The intricate panels, beautiful mirrors, statues and free-standing baths will all delight.
The enchanting infinity pool boasts the most amazing views to the azure waters and the surrounding lush, swaying palms. The pool is surrounded by sun loungers and various alfresco dining and lounge areas. You will always find somewhere quiet and peaceful in this villa. It is a villa where the outside comes in, so relaxing and delightful.
The villa has a lovely open plan layout and is complimented with Portuguese limestone and granite with plenty of handmade carvings from Bali. The spacious and versatile design gives great comfort and seclusion. The limestone entrance hall is impressive and leads to a formal dining hall for ten, media area and a wonderful sitting room. The attractive fully fitted kitchen and breakfast area leads to the pool deck and a tree house which seats 8 for atmospheric dining. The master bedroom is also on the ground floor with a fabulous ensuite bathroom and private courtyard with outdoor spa bathing and a day bed. This all feels part of a glorious, indulgent suite. There is a single bedroom on the ground floor, two shower rooms and also a second king size bedroom, again with a beautiful private courtyard and outdoor shower. How heavenly to be able to bathe and shower outside in total privacy!
On the first floor, there are two further sensational bedrooms, charming with sloping ceilings and reached by a mahogany and glass staircase leading to a bridge. One of the bedrooms is a double and the other a twin. Both have lovely ensuite bathrooms and brilliant ocean views.
Java Bay is a lovely, intriguing retreat, perfect for up to nine guests wanting total privacy and relaxation. A maid/housekeeper will attend the property six days a week for your convenience.Java Bay is situated on the exclusive Calijanda estate, adjoining the Royal Westmoreland and Sugar Hill estates. The sea views are wonderful and within minutes you can be on the glistening sands of Holetown Beach. Barbados has some incredible beaches, mostly calm on the upmarket west coast but thrilling with rollers on the east. The turquoise waters are stunning and the marine life interesting and vibrant. You will find many watersports on the beaches including SUP, kayaking and jetskiing on the west coast and surfing, kitesurfing and windsurfing on the south-east coast. Some of the best beaches are Mullins Beach, Gibbes Beach and Paynes Bay on the west coast, Carlisle Bay and Accra Beach in the south, Silver Sands and Crane Beach in the south-east and Bathsheba in the east.
Bridgetown is an Istagram-worthy scene of waterfront cafes, Parliament Square, bridges, a boardwalk running along the river and across the water, bustling colonial streets with pastel coloured malls and warehouses and fruit carts and souvenir trinkets. Its an interesting eclectic mix. The streetscape has barely changed and streets have their original names such as Liverpool, Lancaster and Swan. The city’s popular waterfront area is know as Constitution River. It was England’s first port of call on the Transatlantic Slave Trade crossing.
Holetown has many wonderful restaurants and bars. The Limegrove Lifestyle Centre in Holetown offers some amazing dining opportunites in the Water Courtyard and on the rooftop as well as being one of the most stylish, upmarket places to shop. Upmarket retail brands such as Armani, Louis Vuitton and Ralph Lauren feature.
You can escape to the Chattle Village in Holetown for some souvenir shopping in the colourful collection of shops set in lovely tropical gardens. You will find local fashion, art and gifts to take home.
The Folkestone Marine Park in Holetown was set up to preserve the coral and shallow areas inhabited by the islands turtles. Two of the four reserve zones are for motorised aquatic sports, another is a scientific zone and the last, a recreational zone for snorkeling and discovering the amazing underwater world.
